who is familiar with a secretary bird?
i seen/heard of this bird for the first time on a recent visit to the san diego zoo.
i thought it was quite interesting, it is a predator that often hunts from the ground. just thought i would share ... feel like i encountered a dinosaur

That's one odd looking bird. I have never heard of it in my life.

I used to see a few wild ones when I lived in Africa, always useful to have around as they stamp snakes to death.

cool bird.
Looks like something we found at an awkward stage of its evolution.

Remember seeing them on the show Wild Kingfom back in the 60's when I was a little tike. Watching them stomp cobras like they were nothing for dinner. Good old Merlin told us they got their name from the feathers on their heads. They apparently reminded some of a secretary who sticks pens/pencils in her hair. Must have been a common thing back then. cool birds.
