Tudor Pelagos. Best new watch for a LONG time.
I am abroad at the moment, and I had the opportunity to see and try-on the Pelagos and the Black Bay today. Let me tell you......they are both winners. I really like the Pelagos. I thought it might seem a little large or thick, but it is stunning in-person. I also liked the black bay, but the surprise was the Pelagos for me. The attention to detail was just great. The chamfers on the lugs was a nice touch as well as the matte dial and bezel insert.
These watches were both spot-on from Tudor. They really did a nice job IMHO.

I like this MUCH better than a SUB, at a very appealing price. Very nice! (Had me re-considering an EXP II 42mm, but not quite). Tudor is my favorite watch line, next to Rolex.

Same here.
I'm glad I did get the 216570 as I don't think much can beat it in the Rolex sports watch arena. BUT I was on the Pelagos bandwagon from the start and things went aloft. I still drool over the Pelagos but now have a Dornbluth on order as a sort of 'heirloom' piece that I ordered after finding out my wife is pregnant with our first child. I suppose the Dornbluth will be more special but I still have 6 months to wait. I think prices are still too high on the Pelagos so hopefully by the time the hype dies down the prices will have as well and I will be ready. |

I haven't seen it in the metal, but it looks very nice on the pics, more so than the Black Bay IMO.

I really love the Pelagos and will pick one up when the hype dies down some and prices become reasonable. It looks much better than the BB to me. In all honesty I couldn't decide if I liked the BB and after seeing pics of it for months now I can say I don't care for it. The Pelagos on the other hand is a homerun. I think it's about as good as it gets for a $4k price or less right now. I know they are going for much more but to me it is a $3000-3500 watch. I'll say it's the best watch in its area of the market but I'm not going to say its in the same league as the Sub, GMT, ExpII, or the Omega PO 8500. The design is great but I just can't say it's better than those I mentioned with in house movements.

The Pelagos looks great, but I have seen it listed in the FS forum for around 5k and thought to myself that a PO 8500 for 4.5k was a far better buy. It would kill the competition at 3-3.5k, though. |

I loved it too the first time I saw it but then I saw the price and even though I expected it to be pretty high for an ETA movement, it still made my eyes grow wide.
For the prices right now, a PO 8500 would be my hands down pick over it but at the ~$3K mark, the Pelagos would be tough to beat. |

Both watches are gorgeous, however if I had to choose between the Black Bay and Pelagos it would be the Pelagos

Agreed, I would get the Pelagos in a heartbeat if it was $3K.

Both beautiful pieces. Can't go wrong given the price point.

Am definitely on board with the Pelagos. Only thing I am worried is the Titanium case/bracelet, I do like the weight and heft of a SS case. Let's see once it hits our shores.

The Pelagos is certainly a fantastic piece, and one that I've got a small hankering for myself!
I had the opportunity to try it on about 3 weeks ago. Boy was I impressed! The finish, feel and clear legibility were fantastic....not to mention the wonderful clasp! Which one is coming home with you Jason??

TRF should have a new section called "Enabling Threads" for these kinds of discussions.

Looks like a really tough choice between those two. They are really nice.
