Putting Glacier Ice Dial on WG DayDate. Matching Hands?
Hello
I am thinking of buying a used WG DayDate with silver dial and change the dial to the more desirable Glaicer Blue one (as Watchfan1 here on the forum did). Finding that impossible-to-get the glacier blue dial is one thing.. but my other question is that does the Plaintum DD with Glaicer Blue dial has a different set of hands than the set on the silver dial DD? Any help is appreciated. Thanks! |

Ask Watchfan how he came by his ice blue dial.

generally when a model specific dial becomes available [ice blue plat/meteorite whatever] it has been sourced from an individual who owns that model and has chosen to dial change and has retained the origanal then sold it on. then to be fitted ouside the RSC network by a competant watchmaker. there has been extensive tightning of certain dial availability recently with strict conditions of sale noteably in the USA, even here with a "pet AD" you would need to supply all relavent serial numbers and details, even that may not be enough with certain dials on "A List" the piece must be returned to geneve for any dial work

Steve,
You can get your AD to simply order the dial, only daytonas need to go back to Rolex. Watchfan1 ordered his from a swiss ad. |

you 100% on that simon? Rolex will supply the ice blue dial to any Ad with an authorised parts account [no questions or verification required]
thanks steve

Not what my AD said. I asked about replacing the cham diamond dial in my YG Prez. They said I had my choice of blue, black silver or MAYBE white and had to send the watch to Rolex. I was also told that NO MOPs unless the watch came with a MOP |

Sounds like a great deal. But, the hands will be different. On the WG DD, they will be WG, and on the Platimum DD they are Platinum. Another point to be aware of is the dating of the Ice Blue dial. I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that older dials have the "feet" in different positions AND older dials may have Tritium/Luminiova markers on the dial which will clash with the no luminous on the WG hands. Keep us posted. John. |

thanks, guys for the answer!!
i have found one mint WG DD from a Japanese dealer in japan for about $15000 (Z serial. this one with silver dial and diamonds) and another dealer can sell me the glacier blue dial (roman numeral) for about $1600 (maybe $1500 if negociated). my final price would be $16600 for a mint condition white gold DD with the glacier blue dial (plus the original dial as a spare). is this a good deal? so basically, the hands will be the same? no need to change that? |

If you have good enough relationship with your Ad then yes, Steve. I am tossing the thought of buying a plat DD after my recent theft. But then I thought of going the same way as watch fan as that would be cheaper. But after speaking to a few AD's it seems I can get a Plat DD for not much more then the cost of a WG DD and ice blue dial and ice blue dial. So I will be going for the new plat DD option, with the insurance money.
