Icon14 What is your favorite vintage movement?

Mine is 26 jewels with 1570 movements.

This is my old DateJust = It had been a work-horse for the last 36 years + kept on running really good. What's your favorite?

The 1520 for its dump-truck reliability. With that said, I can't help but love the early GMTs

Do you have any pic of your 1520 movements; I never come across one. I only own 1560 & 1570 movements

View inside my 5513. By the way, although marked 17J, I have read that the extra jewels were added during routine service in the USA. The reduced jeweling was a result of import tariff restrictions of the time (i.e. 1960s).

I, too, love these movements. Thanks for pointing them out. I feel sometimes like I'm the only one who loves a watch for what's on the inside.
I will say this, however. Having a cal. 1570 in a 20-watch (not all Rolex') rotation, I finally went against my feelings about watch winders and hooked that no-quick set puppy right up. Ahh, now I can enjoy it! And when it wears out from running 24/7, I'll just fix it or replace it. I forget sometimes its about wearing the watch, not preserving it.

With manual Rolexes, has to be the Valjoux 72 or 72C.
