Did I over pay for my Rolex Sub date?
I just bought it a few weeks ago for the SALE PRICE of $4,700 USD. + (sales tax of %8 percent). TOTAL $5,087.75 (it came with a 90 day warranty)
lets just count the sale price of $4,700 usd. since sales tax doesnt count (lol). the watch does not have box/papers and no rolex service papers either so chances are its never been FULLY serviced...but the watch is in great condition except for a couple of scratches on the bezel...the bracelet is in great condition, overall the watch looks in great condition...and i just noticed that it is + 6 seconds per day so its a little fast, but i can live with it being +6seconds fast. this pawn shop has the best reputation in town for selling authentic Rolex Watches for over 15 years. so i was afraid to buy from Craigslist.com or ebay.com or anywhere else for that matter.....nowadays its scary how many fake Rolex watches are being sold. The price tag for the Rolex submariner i got was originally $5,500 and i knocked the price down all the way to $4,700 USD + sales tax so i negotiated with the pawn shop employee. I did not want to shop around too much since i was desperate for the Rolex submariner. The pawn shop told me that they put a lot of work into the watch, i just did not ask what type of work....i think they polished it since it was super clean. I attached the photos of the watch so you all can see the condition and etc.... I plan to sell the watch in 5-10 years from now so i can get a newer Submariner by then. i am really enjoying the watch, i wear it everyday and treat it with care. thanks for reading and commenting. I JUST HATE THE FACT OF PAYING 4 OR 5 THOUSAND DOLLARS AND TRUSTING A COMPANY TO SHIP ME AN AUTHENTIC ROLEX SUB,,,I JUST COULD NOT RISK IT, IMAGINE YOU PAY FOR A ROLEX WATCH AND THEY DO NOT EVEN SHIP YOU ANYTHING, THAT IS SCARY....THIS IS WHY I HAD TO BUY IT AT THE BEST REPUTATION PAWN SHOP IN SOUTH TEXAS. I COULD NOT AFFORD A NEW SUB SO I SETTLED FOR A GREAT CONDITION USED SUB.... |

I think the price is fair, but I would rather one that has b+p.

Congrats!
I would factor in tax into the price you paid (because it is what you actually paid for it). If I ever decided to buy a pre-owned Rolex, I would definitely send it in for service. |

Why didn't you research here a bit before buying? The deal is done. Get it serviced soon. It needs a regulation and for god's sake, a pressure test

Congratulations!
I'm not knowledgable enough to comment on what you paid for it, but don't worry about it. it's too late now anyway so just enjoy your watch. I concur with what others have already recommended in that it would be prudent to get it serviced. |

No matter when you buy a watch you will always see the same model cheaper the following week. It is written.

It's a beauty and it looks great on you.

On another note, you may want to ask the shop adjust the timing, since you have a 90-day warranty.
Also, if you want to learn more about your watch, find out the serial number to determine the production year. |

Congrats and welcome to TRF! As has been stated get it serviced. Give fellow TRF'er Rikki a call. His work is fantastic - search Rikki and/or Rik.

Not too bad on the price, I'd get it serviced thought for peace of mind. Especially if you're going to wear it in the water.
As for no box and papers - wouldn't bother me a bit. Congrats on the purchase.

Yes you over payed. I hate to say it but if you stick around here a little longer you will find that there are more trusted sellers on Rolex forums than in the real world who could have sold you a watch with box and papers and recent service from RSC for that price. Buying from a pawn shop is not always a safe idea. There is no telling how many aftermarket parts are in the movement, or rest of the watch. Unfortunately you will not know until you send it in for service. That for me would be a gamble not worth taking. Pawn shops are only about the dollar not the customer.

With anything there is always a chance the deal could be better - but I think you got into the right raw price neighborhood before tax. Take a look at eBay recent sales and "no sale" for that same model: Completed 16610 Listings
But when you factor in the tax + a service, then it is a bit above market. As long as there is no aftermarket crystal or other parts then let it ride and enjoy wearing it. By the time you choose to sell it I believe things will work out. Main thing is you have a great watch to wear! If you'll allow me to share a little advice (like a trusted uncle might share) - stick with this forum; read, learn, ask questions and in a few years when you're ready to trade up or sell/buy, check the trusted sellers here - no fees, no tax and square deals...

You have a great watch...so what if you paid 4500 or 4700 or 5500
in a couple of years you will be laughing with the low price you paid today when the next fellow member will announce that he paid $7500 for the same watch. I bought a sub for 300 and I thought it was too much Then another for 1500 wow...I said ...thats too much money Now I pay 4500 and I do not even lift an eyebrow So enjoy your Rolex Sub...God's gift to Rolex lovers on earth and in heaven. |
