I have no kids and the closest to them would be my 3 cousins who are pre-teen to teen. I'm thinking of giving them a Wii.

My son is 11 years old. He studies/mentors in martial arts, plays soccer, baseball and is learning to snowboard. These were my recommendations for gifts that would appeal to a kid like him. When he's not participating in some sort of activity (like if it's raining or dark outside) he likes to play video games. I'm trying to get him interested in learning to play music but so far he's resisted. He has shown slight interest in guitar but I will wait to see if he is really interested or if it's a phase.
A clock or a watch would not interest him.

You think that's crazy, My three year old son play it too. So far he has not break the Wii yet. But, he did broke his DS lite twice already that I had to send for repair since I got it for him last year when he was two. The third time, he try to clean it by wash it with water. It is still work but could not turn off.

Books or non-electronic toys. My one year old loves to open and close books (we have touch/feel books with tactile patterns or simulated animal fur for different animals), and putting things in and out of boxes. :)

When growing up, I had the most fun with Lego's, erector sets, a giant cardboard box, Transformers, roller skates, bike or a ball.

Now I sit on my behind in front of a computer when I'd rather be outside playing ball.

We used to play lawn darts all the time growing up in the good old 70's. I was sad to see they outlawed them for "safety" reasons. Frickin' lawyers ruin everything (present company excluded, of course )

As for gifts, my kids just want video game crap. I think I'll buy them a tent and kick them outside for the winter so I can get some peace and quiet.
