21 Birthday Wishes...
Good Morning From A Winter's Morning In Dublin!
I am a new member here but have been reading here for a while. I am turning 21 years old in january and as a birthday present i am recieving some cash and along with some of my own money. I want to realizise one of my dreams which has always been to own a Rolex watch for many reason but have to admit one reason why I would love to own a Rolex watch is because i love watching the original Miami Vice TV show with Don Johnson from 1980s even though its from before when i was even born ha. One of my big question to yourselfs is from your combined experience, have yous purchased Rolex's from ebay before or other online watch stores like swissluxury.com or similiar? How have you found the purchasing experience? When you buy from a online store what is postage like and implications for customs? The watch i want to purchase is the Steel/Gold Rolex Submariner 2007 with Blue Dial And Date. I have seen some beautiful examples of this watch from the internet at great prices inculding a perfect example from a ebay store called "bell 8769" i have attached a photo below. Thanks for looking and appreciated any advice on the mattter. Best Wishes MarkJames. |

Welcome to TRF, MarkJames!
Funny that you should mention "Miami Vice" since I, too, have been gazing at the Rolex watches shown in this series. I think Don Johnson wore a Rolex Day-Date in the series. Also, I have watches "Magnum P.I." with pleasure, and Tom Selleck wore a Rolex GMT 16750 "Pepsi" in that series. Now, for the seller on eBay. He is a reputable seller, and has an expert sales' team, as far as I remember (dunno if he still shows his team on his eBay listings......I am NOT kidding!): I also have my birthday in January, btw.!

Welcome to TRF. When buying your first Rolex from other than an AD it's very important to do your homework. Don't have any experience with the ebayer. Do you have any trusted, local watchmakers? That has worked great for me.
Good luck and happy birthday, dP

Welcome to TRF. Personally, I would NEVER in my life ever purchase off ebay......I just don't trust those bastids...as simple as that!! When you lust for a beauty of that calibre....AD is the ONLY way to go....for total and complete peace of mind. Here's mine purchased last December!!

At the time of purchase last December, I paid just under US$6,000 brand new for it. I will never get it for that same price today!! JJ

Here's a suggestion - why don't you just hop on a cheap flight from Dublin on Aer Lingus to the United States (you can get them as low as $300), go to an AD which discounts (many will give a 15% discount on the TT Sub), and so your cost for the watch here in the US will only be $6,650 plus the cost of the flight? You can even do it all in one day! And I bet that watch price is considerably less expensive than in Dublin...

I hate to be the debbie-downer here but I'm a young guy so I'll give my perspective. If I where you I'd make sure you don't need that money elsewhere. Waiting until I had my aviation school loans paid off before I purchased my baby was one of smartest things I've ever done. Just something to think about.
Best regards, J. |

Try this seller of Rolex Watches
HI,
I have been to this sellers store in Oak Brook, Il USA. He sells pre owned Rolex watches and other high end watches as well. I traded with him on a blue tt Rolex sub just a couple of weeks ago. He has a couple in stock at this time. He will also find what ever you are looking for if you email him and ask. Very Good guy to work with. Here is his web: [url] www.oldworldjewelers.com [url] His name is Andy Olczak. Like I said, I looked up a watch I wanted, found it on his web page and called. I went to his location and picked it up that same day. He does ship world wide, so you will have no problems. You can mention my name, just tell him that Mario from Hammond sent you, he will know who I am. I got a "Z" SS Sub and "D" SS Black Diamond face DJ from him this month. I hope this helps you. I would not recommend this store if I had not done business with them my self. |

Update
Hey Lads
Great feedback i am becoming really well informed with info that i have recieved since i joined. Well Joe100 i have been considering what you said about using my cash for something else and i appreciate your opinion but buying a Rolex is one my dreams in life and something i would like to achieve. Where would you go about getting a list of ADs in New York that would offer such a discount or would be good to contact that Oyster Lover mentioned for a 2007 Blue Submariner? MJ. |

Anyone know where i would get a list of authourised dealers in the NewYork or surrounding area and some contact details? I have checked the rolex website but its only giving me one store in NYC which is on 665th avenue and imagine there is certainly more.
Cheers MJ. |
