i just joined this forum and I've always wondered, are the black ceramic Rolexs fake or just custom jobs?

It's actually a custom PVD coating. There are quite a few topics here on the forum about this and a few videos of the process too.

A colleague had one of these in a Pro Hunter. It was interesting to look at, but certainly took away from the elegance of a Rolex. I would not get one.

I always thought posts where members needed verification about a particular watch being genuine or counterfeit was permitted. Since when has this been banned and by whom?

There is a specific forum for that subject its called the watch out forum, and as a long standing member you should know that. And I will strongly suggest you read the forum rules before making above statements as in rule 5 below.

5. THIS IS NOT A FORUM FOR THE DISCUSSION OF FAKE WATCHES, BRACELETS ETC, and your opinion are about FAKE WATCHES and who makes them, sells them, buys them and wears them is NOT welcome.

Watch out forum header clearly states.

All watch trading buy & sell issues, real/fake identification discussion: internet auctions, sales, authenticity issues and spotting, etc.

They have said that the watch is real, so the discussion is about real watches. No one is talking about buying, selling, trading watches or bracelets.

There is no way I wod ever take one of my watches and have it coated black. I think it takes away from the look of the watch. The stainless sub looks awesome the way it was designed IMHO

The one thing I can tell you is Rolex will not touch it for servicing, so you'll spend your life looking for decent watchmakers who you can trust with your trendy watch.

i have a set of pvd coated regs and they stood up well to knocks and the likes , but two years of commercial diving and they just look beat up , while they still work , and i trust my life to them they just dont look good at all.

My bartender wears one and it's striking.

I prefer TT so it's definitely not my taste, but I can see the attraction.

I suppose if the coating got too sctatched up it could just be re-done...

I always wondered about a black Rolex. I don't know if it's a Rolex but Dale always had a black and gold Rolex. This is the best pic I could find.

It's definitely not ceramic. It's just PVD coated.

Waste of money if you ask me...but to each his own.
