My First "Rolex"! What Vintage Rolex Do You Have?
Hi, I am new to the RolexForums, I only just recently became a Rolex Owner. I have been collection watches for a few years now, and I have always liked vintage watches. The new watches just don't do it for me. So obviously my first Rolex had to be Vintage, and by vintage I mean 1950's or earlier. So here are some photos of my first Rolex. I believe it is from the late 40's. I'm not sure what movement it has, if anyone has an idea, I would appreciate it.
Show me photos of your Vintage (pre-1955) Rolex. Thanks. |

Well, i dont have a vintage rolex(yet), however i do have other non rolex vintage watches. I have a 1951 14k yg lord elgin, a 1968 timex waferthin(not much, but very sentimental to me), a mid 50s 14kgf tissot visodate with a roulette date(which looks quite similar to the re released visodate), and lastly a 1940 tissot 14kgf bumper automatic, which im getting ready to sell. Nice vintage Rolex by the way.

Thanks!
Those are some great watches you have as well. I especially like the Tissot Visodate. I'd love to see photos of the 40's Tissot you have. Thanks for the response. |

Soon I'm going to do a "family shot" of my whole vintage collection. Ill post pics of the mid 50s visodate( which I happen to be wearing today) as well as the 40s tissot bumper, which I will be selling soon. I'll also be adding a 1960 stainless steel omega cal 600 to the collection after Christmas. Pm me if you are interested in the tissot bumper.

Welcome to the forum. I own a 58 6581. I have owned it since 1969. Bought it from a friend. We both had kept it serviced regularly, and it's been my workhorse ever since. I have a thread on the watch with pic's here on the vintage forum. Titled My old workhorse. Take a look.
The stories my watch could tell!! It would be entertaining, thats for sure. Congratts on your first Rolex. Now the fever will hit and control your life!! |

I have just got my grandfathers 1953 Pre-Explorer 6150 back from the "doctors" where it has been brought back to life after a 25 year rest in a drawer at my mothers house. I love wearing it, only wish grandfather could see it. When I was a boy i was always amazed to see him swim with his watch on, and always wanted one. Now i am lucky to have two! After buying a 1987 TT Datejust about 10 years ago.
I hope you get as much pleasure from wearing your watch as my grandfather got and I now get. Also have my fathers 1986 gold Omega Seamaster, love and wear them all. |

If you have photos. I would love to see that 6150. Its great that you get to wear your grandfather's watch. I've been wearing mine for about 7 hours and I can't stop looking at it. Thanks for sharing.

You're probably right. The serial would put it either 1946-47, or 1959-60. My guess would be the former. Rolex reached 999,999 in 1953, then restarted numbering back at 10,000 just to keep us more confused. OK, 1908, the same year the Rolex tradename was registered.

I like the clean, legible Arabics on your dial, ga31! Nice watch. And Al, that is truly an avatar-worthy pocketwatch.
I only ever owned one pre-50's Rolex; I wish I still had it: |

Your watch is nice too. Too bad you don't have it anymore. Was that the original second hand? |

Thanks; honestly I'm not sure. I'd read somewhere that blue or red second hands were common for old military-use watches, and I think that Speedking was from the WWII era. The red second hand certainly looked like it belonged in there, but I'm far from an expert on what "should" be on a Speedking of that era.
