How old is the Earth?

I stumbled upon another forum that this discussion is going on whole heartily...

1. The Earth is Less Than 10,000 Years Old
2. The Earth is More Than 10,000 Years Old

Thanks for humoring me. The other forum is a type that could tend to have more "wackos" than our dear TRF does so I am interested what everyone here thinks.

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

4.54 billion years based based on evidence from radiometric age dating of meteorite’s and comparing them to the oldest-known terrestrial and lunar samples.

Hopefully the topic can avoid young earth creationism and rule 6.

I agree. This topic is possible and politics, race, culture, religion, sexual orientation or discrimination, violence don't have to be mentioned.

Just vote and say something or even a TTT to keep it going.

x2

This cannot even remotely be a serious question. The "young earthers" are completely delusional if they seriously believe that the Earth is approx 10,000 years old.

If you want to debate 4.54 vs 4.53 billion years - that is a legitimate discussion. Young earthers are completely laughable. Just go hike the Grand Canyon and walk down through almost 2 billion years of history.

With age comes wisdom. On second thought, man has been around for about 50,000 years and it seems some still haven't learned much.

I think a better poll is, did you pay more than $10,000 for your most expensive watch, or less than $10,000? IMHO.

A side interest of mine is scientific scepticism and these types of debates tend to get almost procedural after a while.

It usually stems from the opposition having an unstated premise and culminates in anomaly hunting and filling the gaps with the supernatural.
At its most innocent it’s simply a misunderstanding of how the scientific method works.

should the question be...how old is the earth or how old is the material the earth is made from?

It could be...but either way the question is under or over 10,000 years.

IDK, how old is bourbon?

Can't imagine a world without bourbon ...
