Newbie seeking 1963 Explorer advice
Hi All,
I have newly become interested in special watches, and have been sponging up and reading these forums, looking at pictures, learning. I am thinking of buying a 1963 watch, (as I am turning 50) but of course am concerned about getting something authentic...and has not had alot of mismatched parts. Can anyone tell me their opinion of this one? It would be appreciated. Thanks Also I fully realize this is a Rolex forum, but I have also spotted an omega that looks quite nice, except it has someones name engraved on the back, which i dont like....i am wondering about the possibility of removing it or locating another back? Any insight would be appreciated. |

It's possible to locate another back depending on the case number. If you get the chance post up the case number. I can help you with the Omega but not so much with the 1016.

Hi guys
Thanks for the feedback. I'm early in this process so I am bouncing Round. Bit....but I did visit a dealer today on SXM and tried them on more or less for the first time....it was great Of the models I saw I like the submariner, and the date just best...the second being a bit more dressy, as I am turning 50 Anyway something timeless appeals to me more than trendy....the top 4 choices I saw weer a date just with simple bezel and black face, a date just with silver face and toothed bezel, the submariner of course, and very interesting was a 40mm explorer white face which he described as being the last one as it was being phased out, and I wonder if this is a good or bad thing. Last was a black dial explorer which would have been my fav exept the dial had a rather large and mod 3 6 9 which I didn't love. Of all the models he told me this was the one where you couldn't change the dial. Any thoughts on this first vist to these fine watches would be appreciated. |
