Gold Panerai...no love?

I was just wondering why the (perceived) lack of interest in gold Panerai's?

Recently I purchased the 395 as thats what I like, I also have a titanium 343 regatta by the way for the same reason.

Is it the fact it deviates from Panarai's history of being steel and lets say more simplistic and not flashy etc? Just interested to know the feeling amongst the Panerai crowd, nothing will be taken personally I have the watch I like for me but please provide your opinion on this topic?

A guess based on personal experience. First, like a Rolex or an IWC, in its heart it is a sport-watch with military heritage. Gold was always "reserved" to dress watches, so steel is the way to go. Second, gold is simply inaccessible, price-wise to the vast majority of watch owners. Dropping $20k+ on a single timepiece is just difficult to rationalize.

With all that said, I just got rid of a steel Daytona, gold Patek and titanium PAM and bought a gold Panerai, the new 0393. It won't be my daily, for that I will use the Sea Dweller and Explorer and Timex and Swatch, but I bet I will wear it quite a bit. And I will certainly pick up a steel Panerai shortly too.

Thanks Nimi, appreciate your view....I think the 393 came out last year (2012 SIHH) the same time as the 395 but Im not 100%, looks great anyway...enjoy!

I'd own a 277/289/231 any day of the week.

Love to gold, just don't have the dough!

I don't think it is that most do not want gold, it's just that they are out of reach. At least for me, that is the case.

Cheers!
How about some wrist shots? Would love to see some shiny gold Pams!

I'm one of the people who just don't like gold.. I thought about this today actually, about the purchase of my new ap Grand Prix... I chose a forged carbon and exotic material (non precious metal) piece for more or greater than some amazing gold watches... I guess in the end buy what you love. It's true

Gold will always be An amazing value however. Same cannot be said for other materials and metals (platinum aside(

395 is one of the best Pams / Gold watches out there. The moment is beautiful.

Congrats on the 395.

have a 319 i love it, love the weight and the movement, they only made 300, but 3 years after it's release it was easy to find one in the dealer network, so they just don't sell. It is a serious chunk of money, but then it's a serious watch

also have a 376 which is white gold, i like the stealth nature of it, it doesn't look expensive, just another metal watch

The 289 is particularly nice, I think. Essentially a gold 233
