Wire transfer

I was asked a question I couldn't answer.

How long does it take to receive a wire transfer within the USA from a bank in another country? I was told three to five days which seems rather long.

Stateside it takes one day or less.

It depends on the country and the bank.

In the US it takes one day it cannot be less since the clearing through the Fed takes place . . . once a day.

I have only sent wire, and received them from England, so I can't speak to the rest of the world, but it took on average 2 days for them to show. With electronic banking today, 5 days does seem a long time.

Hey John,

I recently had one come from London, and it took 4 days. It made it, just not fast. I bet it depends on both the bank, and the country of origin.

Citibank informed me a few months ago that if the receiving bank do not have an international department the process would take longer because of the need for an intermediary bank. My wires (online) takes only a few hours for domestic transfers.

Thanks all. This is a major USA band and they do have an international department. Sounds like two or three days is the norm.

I receive and send intl. wires on a daily/weekly basis and in my experience the average is the following day.

How about this for a intl. transfer record.

The last wire I sent was to a one horse town bank in Florida which needed to go through two corresponding banks (Citibank & Suntrust) before reaching him.

I had a deadline for the funds to be there so I added $75 for express handling and low and behold the receiver had the funds in 2 1/2 Hr's.

I forgot to mention, if the sending banks corresponding bank happens to be you own bank (Citibank, BA, SunTrust) or similar you'll receive it the same day.

I have sent quite a few and have never had one take more than one day--always there the next day.

Depends on the country - I have had it take anywhere from 1-3 days.

Mostly 2 days . . . from Belgium to the US . . .

And as Mon says same bank . . . same day

You can do it express than it will cost about $ 35.00 extra
