Rolex cal 4130 Daytona vs Breitling B-01 Chronomat

So I need your help and opinions.....looking into a Breitling B01 also known as Chronomat 44. I own a few Rolex watches but Breitling B01 has really grabbed my attention and I am the type to look deep into the movements and accuracy besides just going on looks and popularity. Do any of you own a Breitling B01 and have thoughts, concerns, or opinions?

It appears both movements are extremely accurate, have around 70-72h of power reserve, both are 28,800 beats and both are reliable and reputable in-house built movements....the only reason I will consider a Breitling because of in-house built movement of this caliber.

I love the way this watch is built and the fact that it's a 43.7mm is also something I love....I have a Daytona as well and love that watch but would not mind adding this Breitling to my collection.

This is the one I am planning on getting....18k rose/ss with the dial color combination. Oh, I am not getting this brand new and paying full retail.....the watch is in mint condition with all box and papers complete with original receipt from an authorized dealer and I can make the deal with the owner for less than 50% off retail....I have done all the homework but just can't decide if I should pull the trigger. Your thoughts, concerns, and opinions will be much appreciated as always.

Breitling is not for me.

As has already been pointed out, the Rolex will retain its value and the breitling will not. Make Sure you get it really cheap as far as the monitary value goes...I lost a lot of cash buying and selling Breitlings, won't go there again...

Tough choice, the new B01 is a great in-house movement.

I like the look of the Breitling but what would be a deal breaker for me is the size. I find the Daytona fits me better.

Sounds like your leaning towards the B. Both have exceptional movements. I'm not a huge B fan so I would go with Daytona.

Don't you just love how folks answer questions you're not even asking. Personally, if I were you, I'd buy the Daytona...

The Breitling movement is awesome, but you are unlikely to get a fair assessment on TRF, so just do it if you want it.

Between the two I truly believe apples to oranges two very different watches completely.. I have had Breitling before and for me it's about the comfort and I think Rolex nails this too the floor!! That being said its The Cosmosgraph all the way!!

Daytona for me. That Breitling and many like it are just too busy for me.

Best thing to do is to try both on your wrists at the same store and compare.

I own two Breitlings,both of which broke after a few years. At first , Breitlings appear as good values, have nice styles,etc. I think, though, that Rolex is generally superior in many respects. Would never purchase Breitlings again. I especially dislike all the scratches that the stainless steel bracelets attract. If u could only see and compare my 15 year old ss Rolexes to my 6 year old Breitlings...

I own a few Rolex timepieces including a beautiful Daytona but was contemplating the B01 because of it's in house movement and the fact that I am getting the watch for less than 50% off retail. I know they lose their value quick but if you can buy them at less than 50%, I think it would be a good deal? Plus brings in more variation than just Rolex Rolex Rolex.

Breitling have really developed their movements in the past few years. they collaborate with other brands as well. I would totally agree with you. Having a variety of watches and brands is really nice. Each has its own specific charm. Once one starts comparing them to each other then it gets tricky. For instance, when I wear my Heuer Autavia I'm not comparing the experience to that of wearing my submariner. I appreciate my Heuer for its rich racing pedigree and design and don't try to compare it to the Daytona either (seeing that they are both chronographs) as they are two worlds apart in terms of history and heritage.

I haven't seen much criticism in the responses thus far about the B's movement, which was your central question. I interpret that to mean either we don't know, or there are no big issues with this movement.

If it's the latter, since you clearly like the watch (and especially considering you are buying it for half off), I'd go for it. It may not hold value like a Rolex, but someone else has taken the big initial price hit, so that should be less of a concern for you. Frankly I prefer its look to the current Daytona, whose bezel is too busy for me (but I say to those who love it, hey, whatever floats your boat).

My only caution is that in addition to the movement, you consider and evaluate the durability of the B's finish and bracelet, which have also been mentioned in the responses.

doesn't breitling still use modified ETA/valjoux movements? Breitlings are not known for their movements. a used breitling at 50% off is still more than it is worth.

In some pieces yes but they have been aggressively moving into their own in house calibers. The B01 is their first in house movement that has gotten good reviews

The B01 is my fav Breitling, great mvmnt, dial detailing and comfortable solid bracelet. If you like the 43mm size, and Dayts 39mm is too small for a chrono I think, then go for it, at 40-50% off msrp it is tremendous value for just so much watch.

Have had at least one Breitling in my collection for about 14-15 years. They are great watches and the haters are misguided. It is a different target than the typical Rolex buyer: BMW M versus Mercedes E Class. Breitlings are a little more exciting and aggressive in the styling department, but as you can see not for everyone.

Personally, I'd go for it if you are looking for a different sort of look than your existing Rolex.

BTW...pic of mine fresh back from regular service after 8 years of totally reliable timekeeping. Sent out to service just because I wanted to, not because it was losing time. Has been the most accurate watch I have ever owned, hands down!

Not sure what you mean by that first statement, as you have indicated many other points you like about the watch aside from the movement.

Regardless, do not get stuck in the in-house fantasy. Breitling uses top grade ETA movements (that they further modify) in most of their watches, and let me tell you, top grade ETAs are more reliable and surely more tested than many "in-house" calibers that are floating around. It's a great brand, and many of their watches represent great value.

You have a nice decision to make. Enjoy it.

I have a chronomat evolution which I bought very happily in 2006.

It gets many compliment and IMO, looks great! The comfort factor is important as it is a very heavy watch which you will constantly be reminded that you are wearing.

If you like that idea, it is a very different and imposing watch. The accuracy: excellent.
