Men - Any Hat Wearers Here

Just wondering if any of the men on this forum wear hats - not ballcaps. I know their popularity is minimal and regional, but I've started sporting the look more and more. My friends are not crazy about it and my sister-in-law recently told me I look like I'm 80 years old. Oh well, to each his own.

When it's cold, my husband wears a felt fedora (ie Indiana Jones style) that I bought him years ago. I think he looks especially handsome in it, and I like that it's not the same old baseball cap that every other guys has on. Although my husband does like his baseball cap collection as well!

Long gone are the days when men and women wouldn't be out in public without a hat, and gloves for the ladies. You may just revive the trend, Michael! (Cowboy hats are not so strange here, especially around the Stockyards...)

Michael, those are some fine looking hats. I too enjoy them both in warm weather and cold. I've been told they look very dashing. A man who where's a hat, not a cap, must do so with style and confidence.

Thanks. I agree that confidence is key for one to appear stylish and not like he's unsure of himself and wearing a costume.

I've got hats... no pics right now, maybe I should make some. Wearing a hat without it appearing as a superficial prop is tricky. Most tend to view it that way, including myself. Depends on the person and circumstances. Now the ladies, that's a different story. Hats are a common and effective accessory for them. Funny how mores work... For instance, a lady wearing one of the hats you have pictured and nothing else would be completely acceptable in my mind...

The wearing of a hat here in Australia is pretty optional in the city areas. Most men wear a ball cap at the weekends. However, in the rural areas and the outback 99% of male and females wear an Akubra. Akubras have been around a long time here. They are mostly made from rabbit skin although some are now manufactured in other materials like leather and 'straw'.

The Australian sun, particularly in Queensland, is very powerful and we are told that we have one of the highest skin cancer rates in the world. Me being Anglo Celtic, I have skin which is freckly and prone to BCC's.

A hat is a sensible safe guard and can protect you from heatstroke. Wide brim hats are mandatory wear at most schools here.

Here's my Akubra. The hat is a 'Coober Pedy', very comfortable and lined inside.:

The grey hat in my picture is an Akubra Imperial Felt Squatter hat. I just recently got it and have read nothing but good reviews of the brand.

The only non baseball cap I have, although haven't worn in years, is a classic wax safari hat from The Australian Outback Collection. I actually like hats, but my big head and round face makes it difficult for me to look good in a hat.

That gray fedora in the middle pic is a classic. Playing in a Texas style blues band for many years I have a few cowboy hats. My fav is a 12X Westchester Imperial. No pics though.

I almost never wear hats. I especially do not like ball caps.

I did buy a bush hat when I was in Australia (I had heard about the sun problems there) and I did wear it almost constantly on my trip. I found it was a great place to put on the souvenir pins I collected along the way.

I also have a Stetson I bought when I was in Austin, TX many years ago. That sits on the shelf gathering dust.

And last but not least, I have a top hat that I was given for being part of a bond offering deal years ago.

I'll try to remember to post pics when I get home.

Hmmm, interesting.

I wear braces, always have a pocket square in my suit pocket and smoke a pipe, but I've never gotten round to hats. Definitely something to think about.

I'm also a big fan of pocket squares and braces. A nice pocket square can make the difference in the look for the day. It really stands out since many people don't wear them. I love the smell of pipe tobacco and have a pipe but have not become a regular smoker.

love caps and hats but the weather here doesn't allow people to wear hats ocmfortably, its too hot for that plus people look at you in a funny way if you wear a hat.

Oh, I can definitely relate to this topic ! Being follicularly challenged since my late 20's ... and shaving my head six months out of the year ... and, worst of all, having experienced several sunburns on my head ... I almost never go outside without a hat. During the warm weather months, I always wear one of six or seven ballcaps I own. In cold weather (except when riding my snowboard, when I wear a ski cap), I wear either an Indiana Jones style fedora or, more often, one of two black berets I own. Picked up my first beret in New York City, where they are fairly common. Here in my area of Eastern Pennsylvania, however, they are rare ... which means I get a lot of looks from other guys whenever I wear them. (Women seem to like them though.) Of course, most of these guys are not exactly pillars of fashion themselves. This is, after all, an area where ballcaps -- most guys don't even take them off when eating indoors -- and NASCAR t-shirs, jackets and vests are quite popular. But, I couldn't care less. The berets are light, warm, comfortable and easy to stow in a pocket when indoors. Besides, I always liked being a little different.

Not only have hats fallen out of fashion, many men do not own a proper suit or even a tie.

I only wear a wool beanie, lined with fleece, during Winter time if I ride my bike. And sometimes a ballcap when on vacation in a warm country with lots of sun.
