Help! Has anyone dealt with Ludgate Watches?

Hi, new to this forum and have seen a watch online which I would like to purchase but not sure if this company are reputable? The watch is exactly what I want but he is selling it via ebay - he offered me a discount if I buy direct...is this safe? He provides a 7 day returns policy on it. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

A little Google magic will tell you that Ludgate Watches is a new name being used by an outfit that was previously known as West Sussex Watches. Their reputation would appear to be... less than stellar.

anybody wishing to buy vintage watches from Ludgate watches should do a thorough google search incl:
Ludgate watches
West Sussex watches
Jamie Thorpe

and then think very carefully ....

Also, poor form to use ebay for promotion and then trying to circumvent fees.

I bought a 1971 precision from Jamie. I got nothing but courtesy and a Rolex I am very proud to own.

If he bought through Ebay, lodge a claim without haste. Still possible if an off-ebay Paypal transaction made, not so seamless though.

If he paid through credit card (or slightly less protection in law - visa debit card from his bank account) contact the card provider and start a claim/chargeback.

Keep all correspondence so that a cogent case can be put to the provider. Money will be returned in this event.

If he paid by bank transfer or wire transfer, not so good.

I think you are fine. Just return the watch and PP will take care of the rest if he does not follow through.

update: so ludgate watches refused the returned watch I sent him and had it marked return to sender.... he made up some story about me sending it to the wrong address n he had no credentials to go pick it up.... mind you I sent it to the legal info under his sellers name on eBay.... so I asked eBay go step in, they wanted n email from the post office saying it was on its way back plus pics of my receipts from usps on my end shoeing where I mailed the watch in UK.... sent eBay everything they asked for and they said they had all they need n the high value claims department said they would settle this by Monday....

Fake dial and bracelet on 6694, I would assume.
They mainly sell these.
Very slippery seller, I would have difficulties dealing with them. :-(

good luck with the eBay UK "high value claims department"...I haven't had the greatest experience with them in the past regarding unwarranted returns

Jamie Thorpe is most ignorant and rude human being I have ever deal with. Wants nothing to do with faulty item sold by his company.

Convicted of selling Fake watches, would be carefully checking anything I brought from this guy. No doubt a lot of it was good but franken watches with papers can fool a lot of people. Joke sentence though, only got a suspended so no real jail time.

Maybe he sold some that weren't fake?
Maybe some who inadvertently bought fakes haven't checked and are still happy. They may be less happy if/when a service is required.
It doesn't matter if some of the watches he sold were OK, he's still convicted of selling counterfeit watches and forging papers.
