What's the last word on the DEEPSEA Challenge?

Hi folks,

A while back there were a few threads on the DEEPSEA CHALLENGE. I just want to know if a decision ever was reached by Rolex or a consensus ever reached here at TRF on whether this watch will ever be available to public?

The fact that this watch was missing from Basel 2013 tells me it was never meant to be a production watch --

Thank you,

I highly doubt it will be a production model.

I can't imagine anyone that would actually buy it.

And no one could possibly wear it.

You are right ... it was a publicity stunt ... like a warning to other watch companies ...most likely to protect their DSSD ...

What I mean is that Rolex showed everyone for the 2nd time that they have conquered the deepest point .... so if any of those companies have any ideas, it has already been done .... this act of Rolex kind of discourages others from trying ... hence there is no race to reach the bottom among watch companies...therefore the Deepsea sees no competition...

It will never be made available to the public.

I'm not sure where I read it, but Rolex has spoken.

Much like the watch that went down w/ the Trieste, it was never intended to be available. It's on tour! No joke here, it seriously is. They basically set up a small museum at authorized dealers and the Deep Sea Challenge as well as the experimental Submarainer that went down w/ the Trieste back in the 60's are both on hand in sesperate cases. They have story boards, illustrations and photos along w/ the history of these watches. I recently saw the whole thing in person at the Ben Bridge located in the UTC mall.
