I was surprised to see...

the serial # of my GMTII C engraved on the chapter ring at the six o'clock position. I think it was a good idea, what you guys think?

Recent posts about this. General consenus seems to be that engraving the rehaut is a good idea. Harder to counterfeit, harder to copy.

Also saves you removing the bracelet to confirm the serial number.

Great idea from Rolex. I wish the CRB is on all new Rolexes!

It sure is a convinient feature that you can easily see the serial number of the watch instead of having to take off the SEL at 6 o' clock.

But otherwise, although it is subtle, IMHO it is a bit "over-kill" to engrave "ROLEX" ten times on the rehaut. I don't need constant reminders that I am wearing a Rolex.

I've voiced my distaste for the new chapter ring engraving a number of times before but... most apparently don't seem to mind. Having the serial number engraved there is fine, IMO. It's the branding that I find crass.

I think that the more Rolex does to make counterfeiting more difficult, the more I feel the brand and my watch is protected. Glance at some of the posts in the "Watchout" topic and you can see just how much a concern it is to would-be purchasers of previously loved Rolexes. You can also gain an appreciation that "the devil is in the details" with a Rolex - some fakes are really good but close inspection shows the details to be crude compared to the real thing. CRB is just one more thing to challange the fakers. Sure they will try, and some good efforts have already been seen, but doing it right and capturing the subtlety of the real thing isn't so easy.

Well, Pat, I also don't mind that you have voiced your distaste for the new chapter ring engraving a number of times.

Thanks, Bo. It's nice to know some are reading my ramblings more carefully than even I. Watching the poll thread on this, it became apparent I am in the minority. If consumers are willing to take this in stride, who am I to complain.

Any further birching about this will just be an exercise in...
