Insurance $$$$ DO IT

Just in case some of you are on the fence about having your watches or jewelry insured, DO IT. I got a policy through Jewelers Mutual on my new 116710 and a new ring I just bought my wife for our early 15th anniversary. $18,950 in coverage with zero deductible for $180 for the year. I think it's more than reasonable and I have extra peace of mind. Just my watch alone would have just been $80.

Yeah, I spent more on my wife's ring than my watch. she is the bomb.

Just wanted to share.

I AGREE WITH YOU...19k cover non deduct able for 180.00 a year sounds low though?

MY POLICY IS WITH THESE FOLKS AND THEY ARE VERY GOOD. ALSO IT AVOIDS AFFECTING YOUR HOUSE POLICY IF YOU HAVE A CLAIM. Good advice!

That's exactly what I told my wife when she suggested adding to homeowners and I Said NOOO big mistake if we ever have to actually utilize it. The rate is based on where you live, alarm system, safe etc etc.

My experience has been quite different. I had a catastrophic event at my house several years ago when my house was struck by lightning. Lightning struck my masonry chimney and it exploded and caved-in the roof during a thunderstorm. There was water damage as well as structural damage. It was a $70,000 claim, and my insurance company paid it out with almost no hassle whatsoever. My rates only increased MARGINALLY.......They almost didn't go-up at all.

Farm Bureau Insurance Company. Boat, Cars, House, etc.......all insured through them.

well, imo that is a little different than a "theft" of watches, jewls etc.
the ins. adjuster told me its the worst "hit" to your insurance score for making that type of claim. also. its like a drivers license. it takes so many years for it to go away. even though i switched providers it was still higher than normal, and has decreased every year back to about normal. total BS.

i think it has to do with them thinking it could be some sort of a scam... whether you filed a police report or not.

So the consensus is to get it insured outside of your house policy? Anybody know of anyone that does this type of insurance in Canada?

Homeowners policies just wait for claims to be filed and then screw you. I'm not sure about Canada.

Insure all, keep some in safe deposit box, remainder in home safe, and guard with S&W. Think that covers it.

Same here. I still hold USAA accounts but no longer carry insurance with them. Perfect Circle (Jewelers mutual) is a no-brainer....low prices coupled with damage/theft coverage in a policy that ISN'T TIED to your homeowners insurance. Why would I want to risk paying more for insurance on my house if/when I ever had to file a claim for my wristwatch/wife's ring?

Same here as well. I had to file a claim, ZERO deductible and my rates didn't even go up. And yes, the policy has renewed since the claim. If you have the ability to use USAA, I HIGHLY recomend them.

So I have seen my inexpensive policy jump 300% in a year , yeah same company as my homeowner & auto, but had a small claim and quickly paid out. Any one else have a similar experience good or bad. Or will recommend a stand alone company?

I too have my Sub insured through Jewler's Mutual, great peace of mind! I would like to hear from anyone as posted above who has made a claim through them if their rates went up though.

You can go to Jewelers Mutual.com 24/7 and enter your info for a quote and then purchase right there if you choose.

I think it's always good to have them insured for good peace of mind. Unless there is another alternative.

I've got my watches insured through USAA too. I haven't ever filed a watch claim, but their service for a camera claim of mine was top-notch.

Can you insure even if you are not currently on USAA?
