Hello Everyone
How are you ? I am a new member at Rolex forums and have purchased a pre owned 2002 Rolex Oyster perpetual watch in 18 k gold and ss two tone from an authorized rolex dealer in NJ. This is my first Rolex and excited about it. It is model 14233. Please let me know what movement is inside the watch as I am not sure if it is self winding or manual wind. Thanks.

Congratulations on acquiring your first (of many) Rolex. I don't remember the caliber number, but you can rest assured it's an automatic (i.e., self-winding). All Rolexes these days are automatics. You can manually wind it (40 turns will give it a full wind - and you can't overwind it - a clutch mechanism prevents overwinding). Once you wind it the first time, just keep wearing it and it will always stay wound. It should have a 40-48 hour power reserve, so don't be afraid to take it off at night. It'll be fine when you strap it back on in the morning. Now how about some pictures of that beauty.

Perpetual means automatic winding. According to the link I am putting below, your watch likely has a 3000 movement.
http://www.watchgeek.com/rolex-molel-to-caliber.pdf There's a discussion of the Caliber 3000 in this review of an Explorer - you can find other ones by doing a search of "Rolex caliber 3000." http://www.timezone.com/library/horo...horologium0036
