I saw this referenced in the other thread. I've had no experience with the pen but I'm interested to hear from others who might have.

when i repair small scuffs i use red scotchbrite, then i will go back over the area with grey scotchbrite to match the finish of the rest of the watch as it is a finer grade of abrasive. i use one of these pen's to finish and blend the area. my experience with these is they are only good to finish and blend the area.
hope this helps, cmr |

Looks pretty good to me. However, others seem to have better success with those products than I.

One thing I do like about it is its small tip. That should make touching up small, tight areas a lot easier.

this pen is a good idea but this pen tool is not meant to refinish brushed serfaces on watches. this pen tool is really made to scrub and clean the interior micro bords of quartz watches from my understanding and use. but i can see someone else found a use for it other than that. eh.

I have this fiberglass pen and have used it for over 7 years on my S/S watches. You can find these as cheap as $6 on ebay.com. Don't expect a "like new" finish, this is great to use on LIGHT scratches. This it not ment to be used on gold or platinum. I use it if I get a minor scuff.
I just went over the bezel on my Expy II and it turned out great. Be sure to lightly scratch the S/S in the same direction as it all ready was polished. I also recently cleaned up my SMP band and case and it too came out looking great. I will post some before and after shots for you guys to see... Before & After LOOK AT THE 10 & 16 MARK ON THE DIAL AND ALSO THE LOWER RIGHT SIDE OF THE CASE... Everyone should have one of these... but be careful not to over polish it !!!!!!!!!!!

Don't these pens come with different degrees of abrasive tips??
I mean: Restoring the satination of the lugs of say an old-style GMT II (= coarse, DIAGONAL satination) is not the same task as restoring the satination of the lugs of the NEW GMT II(c) which has much finer, HORIZONTAL going satination).

Yes there are different tips that are available. I purchased the most fine tip... the fiberglass has strands that are roughly the same thickness of you hair.

Well, I took the plunge and made an order for this pen and the Cape Cod cloth. Hopefully they'll be in by end of the week. Would like to give it a try.

Give it a try but remember to be careful and don't make excessive use of the cloth or the pen cause you are going to be really unhappy with the result

I have both the pen and the scotchbrite, use them both all the time on my brushed and satin finish watches, bottom line is there is not a scratch on brushed SS that can't be addressed with a scotchbrite, the pen is over kill, scotchbrite works on all scratches large-small, deep or light, scotchbrite all the way. The pen for scratches is a bit over matched JMHO

The pens actually work extremely well on brushed titanium, but it takes a very light touch.
They can work well for brushed solid gold as well, but again, it takes a light touch or the finish will be uneven. In my experience, Scotchbrite in varying degrees of abrasiveness work best on brushed stainless steel. |
