Here goes...joined right after Christmas this year when I got my M series SS Sub. Been wearing an original Seiko 6309 that my father bought new in 1978. What a tank this watch is. I am going to give it some R&R and get it serviced. As for my professional life, I am a pilot on a Dassault Falcon 2000. See left!

Sure...

I'm a 35 year old university lecturer from Sweden. Been dreaming about owning a Submariner for over 20 years and have just recently fullfilled this dream. Before, everytime I had to buy a watch, I always felt sad since it wasn't a Rolex. "The next time I'll get one..." I said to myself...

Anyway, now I'm a proud owner of an new SS Sub date and I'm happy as a clam. I regard this Sub as my first Rolex and I find it unlikely that I will ever flip a Rolex. Why would I do that? It's like a samurais' sword really. Every timepiece has a soul and it is your obligation and priviledge to cherish it. Well... That's the wanna-be-collector-spirit inside of me talking... Kind of diffcult to regard yourself a collector when you only have one, but hey, it's a start isn't it?

I'm not sure when I'll buy my second Rolex but I't will probably be within the next couple of years. I'm planning to buy a 18k DJ, white dial, roman numerals with a leather strap or jubilee. We'll see which ever it will be. I also would like to own a Milgauss LV so that watch will probably be my third target.

I have ordered a couple of books from Amazon lately to improve my knowledge of Rolex since I now can consider myself a member of the owners club. The books I've ordered are "The Rolex Report: An Unauthorized Reference Book For The Rolex Enthusiast" and "Rolex Wristwatches: An Unauthorized History (Schiffer Book for Collectors)". They seemed appropriate reading to me. Any comments on my choice of reading?

I'm a seasoned forum buff so it's likely you'll see more of me in the future.

Finally, I must say that this forum really is top notch! Everyone is friendly and eager to help out and answer any questions. I'm glad that I found it!

Well okay......

The wife left me two years ago, she got the house and I got to keep the BMW, the shirt on my back and the Submariner Date. I'm now living la vida loca downtown, which is ok since I work in the financial district and it's close. I work for a major Canadian financial institution in fraud, anti-terrorist and money laundering. My interests are premium vodka, Chilean wines and younger women (well, two out of three ain't bad). I've got the Submariner Date and an 80's vintage Heuer chronograph, looking for a Speedmaster and a dual time zone Rolex.

Love the Forum by the way, kinda like an internet "One Flew Over the Cookoo's nest"

My feelings exactly! I'm a fairly new member and have enjoyed all of the helpful advice and wisdom from many here. I received my first Rolex, an SD, as a wedding present and love it. Currently, it is at the RSC for its second service since it was inexplicably gaining a lot of time each day (+30/sec), and I should get it back any day now. I confident in the service and the brand, and I have very much appreciated the comments from others.

Hello All,

Found TRF as I tend to be one who jumps in feet first, and at the deep end to boot. I have a collectors mentality, and when I start with something, I like to learn as much as possible about it. This forum has been a wealth of knowledge, and has what seems to be some very genuine people who share the passion, and are overall very friendly.

5 years ago, a Rolex was just another watch to me, and an expensive one at that. Never thought I would desire one, until a good friend visiting from back east left his Rolex at my home, an Air King, and I had to baby sit it for 6 weeks until his return (He did not want me to mail it, just to hold onto until next visit.) Well, wearing that watch for a couple weeks got me to looking, though any Rolex was still out of my range, and did not make sense financially. When I saw a Daytona, it smiled at me, and knew some day I would own a Rolex.

Fast forward a couple of years, anniversary, my wife decides that after so many years of buying me watches that give up at some point, that she is giving me a Rolex. I never asked for one, wifey just always caught me looking in the displays of the local AD. I probably looked for 3 months at different Rolex, and nothing appealed to my practical side as being a watch of diversity. That, and I just like to be a bit different I suppose. Subs are nice, but it was not me. Tried a Thunderbird, and almost pulled the trigger on that one, but it still did not smile ear to ear. Then one day, my jeweler and one of many local AD's, who is wonderful, received a S/S Tapestry DJ, called us up, and it smiled at us both. Good blend of casual ease, but still dressy enough to suit up. That was it, done deal. Bought 2 more Rolexi since, and will probably go with a SD sometime in the future.

As a side, thanks to many on this forum for there wisdom, knowledge, and general help. Nice boards, good people!

Next?

I'll play.

I'm 46 and purchased my first Rolex just before Christmas, the GMT-Master IIc. I, too, had been lusting after a Rolex for a lot of years, but, for various reasons, never got around to actually buying one. About 5 years ago, I got back into my first mechanical since I was a kid, an Omega Seamaster Pro. The watch was a reward to myself for losing a bunch of weight and getting into the best shape since my time in the army.

I enjoyed the experience of owning a fine timepiece so much, that my interest in watches was rekindled. The whole experience of researching, purchasing and owning this watch was very pleasureable to me. The SMP has been great.

But it wasn't a Rolex.

Like others, I first learned about Rolex watches by watching James Bond movies. Being of the firm opinion that Sean Connery is, and will always be, the one and only James Bond, I knew some day I'd get a Rollie Submariner, a la Dr. No. The Rolex watch has always had a very magical appeal to me.

This last Christmas season I was in a very energetic shopping mode, and I first learned of the GMT IIc. The second I saw it, I knew it'd be my first Rolex. It just so happens that a guy I work with is a WIS, and he put me on to an out-of-state AD whom he had dealt with for many years. Long story short, I called him, got a great price, and pulled the trigger. I've been wearing the watch every day since.

BTW, I agree, this is a fantastic site. I'm also a seasoned forum buff, and this is one of the best I've come across. There are other forums that deal with Rolex watches, but none is so active, helpful and friendly as this one. I've learned a ton from the knowledgeable people here!

I love my new watch and am lusting after another Rollie, probably a Sub or DJ, but I'm going to try to hold out until I can save some more scratch.

John

I hate the term "Newbie" and "NOOB"

I have wanted a Submariner for as long as I can remember. I bought the Rolex Report in 2006 and began studying Rolexes. In December of 2006 I decided to buy a watch and ended up buying a Tag Heuer Aquaracer Automatic, the SS model that looks very similar to a Sea Dweller. In December of 2007, I traded my Tag Heuer towards a Rolex GMT II C, although I still desire the simplicity of a Submariner or Sea Dweller and I may purchase one in the near future.

I enjoy this forum and have learned a lot. Thanks TRF

Sean

Just joined the forum, Hello!

I am from Pittsburgh. I have owned Rolexes for about 25 years and currently have these two.

My wife has this Yachtmaster and a Ladies Datejust.

I own a few other watches from Sinn, Seiko, Glashutte Original, Kobold, Omega and Citizen.

I am a sport diver but was a Commercial Diver back in the 1970's and early 80's. I am now a Semi-Retired Contract Engineer.

I travel a fair amount and have many hobbies. Just back from the US Virgin Islands around Chrismas time.

Hope I can provide some positive forum comments and learn new things from you all as well.

Now that middle one is a damn good looking watch. I got my DJ back today and got the extra straps for my panerai so expect a few pictures to come

I am 37 yrs. old, and a medical professional. I got my first Rolex (a TOG) a few years ago, after wearing the Omega SMP Chronometer for 3 years. Late last year, a colleague of mine got the Sub LV, and it rekindled my interest in Rolex. So in Nov. last year, I bought the SS Sub Date, but soon was looking at the SD. Sooo, I told my wife that I will sell the Sub Date, get an Omega 300 GMT and the SD for Xmas. By chance, I saw the SS GMT IIc in the dealer case, and decided to go for it instead. Sadly, the SD bug still bit me, so went ahead and got the SD from another AD early this year. I also bought for the wifey a ladies DJ at the same time. I've been in love with the SD ever since...

Just yesterday, I bought ANOTHER SS Sub Date M serial as a gift for a friend. I thought about passing off my existing Sub Date to him, but in the end knew he would appreciate a new watch more, and thus bit the bullet once more...

Sean, buying that Sub caused me more pain than I ever knew, mostly b/c it's such a beauty to give away!

Hello All:

I'm a 37 year old mechaincal engineer from Pennsylvaina.

I've always loved Rolex, but never thought I'd have the means to own one. My everyday watch was a Seiko Windward that I bought myself as a college graduation presant and I wore it for 7years. It was beginning to look a little weather-beaten and my wife suggested that we get me a new watch for my first Fathers Day present after the birth of my son in 1998. We happened into a Rolex AD and looked around a bit and quickly decided that we were in no position do spend several thousand dollars on a watch. The sales lady must have seen the saddness in me and asked me to wait around for a few minutes. SHe disappeared into the back and returned with a different watch. She explained that "Rolex wasn't allowing them to sell these anymore and this is the last one" and that she'd be able to give me a good deal. She opened the box and revealed a TT Tudor Monarch quartz. I fell in love. . .and left with the watch. I've worn it every day since June, 1998.

Well, nearly 10 years later (this past December), I went back to the same AD and ordered myself a fine Christmas present. It'll be here in late February and I'll post some pics once it arrives.

Here's my Tudor

I got my first one this Xmas too. I went to an AD to get a DateJust for my mother's xmas gift and after I got it, I decided I wanted a Submariner for myself. So I got a SS Sub ND.

Greetings to all !!

I have been lurking for quite a while absorbing the great knowledge base of our members. I own a GMT II and an Explorer I and am on my AD's list for a Milgauss.

I purchased a ladydate for my wife for Christmas (her first rolex) and was thrilled to watch her unwrap it and enjoy "her first", yes, she was in tears. She has not taken it off since. I have indoctrinated another into the passion of Rolex ownership.

This is a truly wonderful group of people. I thoroughly enjoy JJ posts and all of the banter back and forth.

Hello to all !

Hello all,
Another new member here.
I have been lurking for some time now and this Thread seems like a good one to introduce myself.
My story is probably simmilar most of you.
I bought a SD for myself as a reward for changing jobs about 2.5 years ago. My wife thought it was a waste of money for a $5K watch. But, does not think it is too much to spend on jewlery????
I tried to explain to her that watches are MENS jewlery!! That is ALL we want. Besides a wedding band, necklace that my Mother bought me 25 years ago, a watch is all I want to wear. Each has a special meaning to me.
I have been happy and enjoyed my SD ever since. I love the blank looks some people have when they look at the SD and wonder if it is real since it does not have the date magnification bubble that most Rolexes have.
Then this last fall my wifes 50th B-day was approaching and I asked her what she would like. Her sister has a Tag Aquaracer and she wanted one like her sisters. Well, I thougth my wife deserves the best and went to my AD and found a SS Ladies Oyster Perpetual with a white gold bezell and black face. It looks simmilar to my SD. Great price too! The bezell really glitters in the sunlight.
They wrapped it and I could not wait for my wife to open it.
Finally the day came and when she opened the wrapper and found the Familliar Rolex box she looked at me with a confused look, and I told her that I just used my "old" box since Tag did not come with one!!
Well, when she opened the box and aksed "Is this a real Rolex" and she saw the smile on my face she instantly knew it was.
So, now she loves it. She does not want to trade it in for a Tag!!! She is a big David Jurman and John Hardy fan, so it matches the sterling silver and black onyx that they use.
My AD tells me that with all the purchases and money I have spent in their store he can put me on their famous "Daytona List".
Luckily now that my wife is a Rolex fan she lets me get on the list and within 2 weeks he calls and tells me they have my Daytona in. I have 72 hours to make up my mind or they send it back!
So, now I have 2 watches.
Sounds simmilar to your stories????

I dont know what happened to my first port! It disapeared.

I am a 50 year old Swede. I bought an Oyster Perpetual Datejust SS/gold as a x-mass present to myself. I found the watch on a Swedish auction site and got it a few days before x-mass. I am very pleased but from reading this site I have found out that the non original diamonds on the dial will cause problems when servicing the watch at RSC. I hope to find an original dial and switch before handing it in. An alternative is to find a good watch maker who doesn't care. (Anyone know of a reliablie watchmaker in Gothenburg Sweden?)

Before I wore an Omega Constellation (Pie Pan) which is accurate to the second after a weeks usage. I am very pleased with it but the Rolex is nicer.

I have a second question: How long power reserve is normal on a caliber 3035?

Welcome Skutt.(and everybody else too)

Your post just got hung up in the software....

Expect about 40-45 hours of PR from your 3035...

Joined in December....Found the site during hours of endless internet searching about Rolex.

Started with a Tag, then a Tutor...flipped that for a 1605 DJ and than flipped that for the GMT II.

Would love a sub or exp II....We'll see.

Hi, got my first Rolex before Christmas last year. I admire this fine watch and craftsman of this time piece makes you think that this will last a lifetime. It was a Christmas/Anniversary gift from my wife and it's really a very special one. Took her out on our Wedding Anniversary (Dec 20) and after a lovely night we swing by to a nearest mall. We are in the Rolex AD looking around and one of the sales guy offered us to try their watches. So I picked the DJ first, then GMT II and the Sub ND. After comparing those watches, my wife asked me not to take the Sub out of my wrist (except for resizing), and she said "It's yours now". Lucky me and thats my Rolex story...Love my watch, Love my wife and love this forum
