Drives me crazy
All of the accuracy posts have gotten me thinking so:
24 hours ago I set these 3 at the same time and same second start. Now each is different. I can say most likely the Daytona is the most accurate because I had been testing the deepsea against the atomic clock for 2 weeks and it is sure 4 seconds slow per day. But now I am going to test all of my watches. But this is madness and if I Start with the Panerais this will never end. |

I reset my Sub every 90 days... you'll go crazy over this. If it's within COSC why worry about it?

As far as I'm concerned a watch is usually tested in six different positions, if it happens that your watches aren't the most accurate when you put then in a case then perhaps it's because they're in their "less accurate position", I suggest you try to wear them everyday for a week or so and then check, sometimes the mere fact that you were them and make them move around or put them in various positions over the day will give you better results at the end of the week. Still, I wouldn't worry too much about it, I used to buy quartz watches because I would be too afraid that mechanical timepieces wouldn't keep good time but found out that unless you compare them to a reliable source everyday you won't notice a difference.

There was a time when I only bought/wore mechanical Rolex watches. I was always a little OCD about accuracy and some of my watches would drive me nuts with their accuracy (even at +6 a day which is within COSC it would be too much for me after a week). I sold all my mechanicals, and now have two Rolex Oysterquartz. One runs a few seconds fast A MONTH, the other a few slow A MONTH. That I can live with.
Last week I had an opportunity to get a birth year Datejust in pretty good condition. It is obviously an automatic, and runs a tad fast. I was able to find the resting position to keep it from gaining when I take it off at night. The accuracy sort of bothers me, but I like the watch and if I want a birth year Rolex I will have to deal with it. Do I need to know time to the exact second? No because I am not planning a military assault. Do I prefer the accuracy of the Oysterquartz? Yes.

Try not to give into your somewhat OCD impulses and just enjoy the pieces. Otherwise, get a quartz. Good luck

I have never checked the accuracy of my Sub C and never will. Just my opinion but there is so many other things to worry about in life. We are fortunate to have the means to purchase a Rolex for heavens sake. Can you imagine a struggling single mom with a kid with cancer looking at one of us freaking out over whether or not our 10k watch is off a few seconds? This is not meant as a jab at the op or subsequent posts. I just think its important to keep everything in perspective.

I don't worry about it. My Rolexes get me to meetings and job sites on time. I haven't missed an episode of The Walking Dead, because my watch was wrong. When someone asks me the time, I can tell them confidently what my Rolex reads. I'm just always in awe of these tiny machines that we carry with us every day.
Plus they look cool as hell.

It took you longer to write the post than to obsess over a few seconds per day.
I wish you luck!

dear all
thanks it was a joke post and i am sure your answers were in humour. I have been collecting rolexes and panerais since 1994 and i am well aware of the inaccuracies of mechanical watches. but i still love them. it was only by chance that yesterday i put these three in the watch box and set them all at the same time and second. believe it or not i have never done that before. this came about because my V series dssd was not worn for over a year and half. and when i did put it on it was loosing 6 seconds a day. now it is down to -4. since i did this accuracy timing, i said why not do it with the watches that are next to the dssd, hence the test. thanks for the emails and i did enjoy them. and i do have one quartz. hardly wear it. |

Yeah, kind of an epic fail on the joke part.

sorry all but i did not think there would be people with multiple rolex and panerais and still not understand the effect of mechanical accuracy.
my apologies for being so short sighted. |

Precisely. It's a mechanical machine assembled by hand. You're bound to see variances. Otherwise a quartz watch is what you want.

Set it, forget it & enjoy it. That's how I roll, life is too short to worry about seconds on a watch.

If you rotate every three days, you'd have to wind and set the watches before wearing them. A sew seconds over 72hrs is no big deal.

I would have zero clue whether my watches run fast or slow. I just set them, wear them, and enjoy them. + or - 6 seconds isn't going to cause me to lose my sanity.....

I didn't reset my watch since I bought it last Sunday, and it's 5 seconds fast against the time.is website. I don't worry about the accuracy a whole lot, and only checked it for the first time because of this post.

Although I am fascinated with the accuracy of my watches I'm not obsessed. What I am obsessed with is that the minute hand is synched with the second hand.
The minute hand has to be exactly on the minute tick at the same time the second hand hits the 0 tick. If I find it varying, I will reset the watch. So no, I don't have OCD... really. |

This is the reason I love my G-shock atomic. It gets a time signal every night and is my gold standard for accuracy. Of course, I monitored my GMTIIC and am very happy with +2 seconds every 24 hours.

I'm not quite OCD, but I do want my watch to be as accurate as possible. I simply time hack my watch of the day with a call to WWV and the Emerald time app. I do make the hack at a quarter hour interval so I can align the minute hand to a stick instead of a dot. It doesn't take that long to make a daily adjustment.

I'm a bit OCD about accuracy but I don't mind the interaction with the watch every few days resetting it.

I set all mine at the first of the month. I don't stress about it but like to see which one is the best performer!
