Tissot makes a series of mechanical watch and very good quality quartz watches for under $1000. Longines used to have watches for around that price but I don't think they do anymore

Seiko SARB33 or SARB35. Best looking and best built watches out there for your price range, IMO.

Sinn 556 is probably the best watch for 1k. In reality though, 1k isn't going to buy you much. A nice pen may be more in order. |

What about a cool G Shock? Mine is from 2001, the band is broken and the battery's dead...but I've instructed Mrs EEH10073 to resurrect it. I kinda' miss that watch...

I have a lot of respect for Oris, they sell only mechanical watches and some of their selection is <$1k.

waaaayyyy too many in that price range to name off. i'd just ebay search and go from there. you can even do very well for about $600 with a NEW seiko sumo. probably the best sport diver with an automatic for the money. casual-formal, i'd look at longines, fortis, tutima, sinn, oris or mido for a new model. there's really too many to name off under $1k and they're all decent. good luck

I'm surprised there's so many answers, and only 1 Hamilton... Clearly IMO the best bang for your buck for under a grand is a hammy. Seiko, best bang for under 2k...

It's axiomatic: the less you have to spend, the more you need to look at Seiko.

Oris.
Independent and they have never ever made a quartz watch. They also use eta calibers and don't disguise the fact they do.

If you want something a bit special, and have a few weeks, you can try Wilson Watch for a build-to-order watch. You can get a nice mechanical assembled for under $1,000.

Citizen Signature Grand Classic autos with the new Miyota 9010 movement.
41.5mm case, hand assembled movement that hacks, hand winds, and is capable of accuracy to +1 second a day (one of mine is +1 for a two and half week period, total!). The bracelet and case are hand polished, Sapphire crystal front and back. The watch is 100m WR and the crystal has double AR. Either of these can be had for well below $800 |
