Buying a Rolex in Dubai?

Hi I'm going on holiday to Dubai at Christmas and was wondering if anyone had any experience of purchasing a Rolex from there?

I am undecided on whether I'd like to buy new or per owned. So again if you know good shops to look in for either I would be grateful for your info.

Hopefully I can find a nice Submariner 16618 over there.

There is no major benefit in buying from Dubai - the prices are no longer cheaper than UK AD prices (assuming you are able to negotiate a respectable discount).

The all gold sub is defo a piece you should be able to negotiate a discount on in the UK.

Buying a Rolex in Dubai?

I was just there a few days ago. At the airport they offered about $8-900 lower prices than US retail msrp on sport models and a bit more on DJs. Also no taxes and they were more open to negotiating even if they gave up nothing they at least entertained the idea. This much different than my experience the last time I was there, they were stone cold no way no how on discounts. Didn't check the gold but I'd assume a marginally bigger difference as they sell slower than ss. The Mall of Emirates ADs had just about the same. Zero negotiating though.
Good luck.

Hi thanks for your comments / Help. I've been reading about the Gold Souk area and that being best for pre owned. I might have a look there too.

You will have a interesting experience there - remember buy the buyer. I've been to the gold souk numerous times and its probably not a place that I would consider buying a watch from.

Please try not to impulse-buy in the Souk (or anywhere for that matter).

I met a guy in Afghan the other day who was wearing an Omega he said he got in Dubai because the prices were much better than in America. He knew nothing about the watch, other than "I got it only cause everybody else wears a Rolex." I slipped up my sleeve and smiled. He responded "See what I mean." Good luck, and I hope you find a great deal. I'll swing through there next year and will def check out some stores.

I had good luck both in availability and price at the Emirates Palace (7 star hotel) Rolex AD in Abu Dhabi, walking in they had both the SS Black and White face Daytona:) Not far from Dubai. Presently in Qatar and local AD sells at retail, no discount. Typically Rolex Ad's in an Emirates have a single owner. Good luck!

Purchasing in the Emirates

I had good luck both in inventory and price at the AD located in the Emirates Palace (& Star Hotel) in Abu Dhabi where i acquired SS Daytona . ( They had both white and Black dial available) It is very close to Dubai. Please note all AD's in Emirates or countries in the Middle East typically have one country owner. I am present in Qatar and while they have a large inventory are fixed on price at retail. You do have the advantage in this market to avoid tax. They presently have the special addition Deep Sea watch used by James Cameron to some ridiculous depth on display......funny, they said so far it only has been displayed at two other location, which i saw ago ne of the other locations as well...Orlando Fl......small world:)
