Not So Much A WTB (Yet) But Can Anyone Suggest A Place To Find A Beater

Bougt myself a SS Sub a few months ago and truly love it. However, I'm not comfortable wearing it to work as I am a contractor and a 5k watch just isn't going to go over well with my clients.

But I could get away with a watch that cost less than a grand. I generally don't really like the "dressy" Rolexes (DJ, etc) but it seems I can find a lot more of these used/beater in my price range than a sport Rolex, or even one with a simple face.

Any thoughts? Or is looking for a functioning Rolex, no matter how beat on for less than 1k just a foolish idea?

Thanks all!

I don't know about a Rolex for less than a grand. But, a used Omega can be around that price. Let's face it, you just can't go wrong with an Omega

Yeah, man I wore an SMP Bond chrono to work for five years straight and just couldn't break it. It's probably the best watch I ever had and the one I miss the most I'm a huge Omega fan

Maybe a Tudor Prince Date? They're in the $350-$700 range.

Heres a good beater .

But you have to ask for a black bezel and a stainless back.

And a thread about this watch.

I wear a Marathon SAR as my beater, great diver watch and you can buy the TSAR for $425. on the rubber strap. The Marathon rubber is the most comfortable strap I have ever worn too. Seriously, it's the best beater watch out their, you don't have to worry about a thing, they are built like a tank. I wear a Omega SMP but that is a $2300 watch, ( I did get a hefty discount from a great AD though ), but still not quite beater pricing for me. My sub. is treated like a baby, but when you spend over 4 grand, it deserves it.

I like my SS Tag. Paid $700 for it back in '92 and didn't change the battery for like 9-10 years. Now I have to replace it every 18-24 months. Great watch though IMO. Takes a beating!

I've worn a tt sub for 13 years and have had two people comment on it in that time. Maybe just wear it?

And yeah, the thing is a beater. Like a tank. I love it.

Thanks for the suggestions. Any reputable Omega resellers y'all can recommend?

I think you could get away with wearing your Sub. It is a fairly discreet watch to those that don't know what it is. The design has been copied so often that it looks to the non-WIS like any other dive / sports watch. It is not a flashy watch and I doubt it would be noticed. On the other had the "dressy" Rolex would more likely be noticed by your clients and perceived to be a "flashy" expensive Rolex.

Part of the joy in owning a Rolex is being able to wear it. Why don't you give it a shot and wear it and see how many clients notice it?

Did you say you were looking for a beater?

I borrowed the pic from Larry.

Chances are, no one's going to notice what kind of watch you have on anyways. Skip the beater and enjoy your watch.

I would also suggest the Omega SMP! You cannot get much better quality for the money!
