Easylink to Glidelock and the RSC

I've read that some folks have switched out the easylink clasps to a glidelock. Have been wondering what might happen however if/when the watch ends up at an RSC for service?

They'll want to restore it to the original clasp or refuse service. Best to restore the old clasp before sending it in.

Thanks, Mike....figured as much. This is something I will likely never do anyway. Sure wish Rolex would offer the glidelock on more models.

I put Glidelocks on my SD and LV....if and when they need service I'll send them the head only...best of both worlds!

As much as I would love to have a glidelock if I owned a GMT, it sells for around 2k, which is insane, imo.

As to the OP's question, RSC would put the original clasp back in and charge you for it, from what I have learned. Do as Mike suggested and change it back before sending it in. Or service the watch with a trusted watchmaker!

No, the RSC will not try to change it back..

There are plenty of Rolex watches that go in with different straps and bands.. As long as it isn't counterfeit they don't really care, it's aftermarket parts on the head that they may refuse service for - although they will not refinish a non-Rolex band or strap at service..

They also will not arbitrarily change "back" any modifications to your watch.. If it doesn't meet their "original Rolex" criteria, they will suggest new parts but will not force the issue.. In extreme cases they will refuse service unless you accept their recommendation, i.e., bezel changes etc.

Agree about this with a caveat, the policies are sometimes interpreted differently by different employees, there is in my experience always a chance of an excessively overbearing employee.

Im sure it helps if your a long time customer with a good rapport.

Someone here on the forum said they sent the head without bracelet and the RSC serviced it that way.

I have sent a head with no bracelet for service, no problem...its 1 less thing they can put their hands on & damage.

If you are uber concerned, just have the head serviced (i.e., remove bracelet/strap, etc.).

...recently I visited the RSC in Beverly Hills. I asked if they would still perform a full service on my GMT2C, even though the PCL's had been brushed by an AD. Response was the RSC would service the watch, but not the bracelet; the bracelet would be removed and returned to me prior to the service being done. The RSC would install the bracelet upon my return to pickup the watch, but may charge me to do so.

Seemed to me that refinishing a brushed PCL bracelet would be no different than servicing an Explorer bracelet, or any other factory brushed one. The Rolex policies seem strange to me at times...

I wish Rolex would allow people to upgrade clasps especially in cases where they are 100% backward compatible with an older bracelet. Like easylink clasps to a glide lock as Ron asked about.
