I'd be more worried about the PayPal rip off.

Paypal only up to 3k ;) have heard of some very expensive paypal scams costing the seller 6 figures in the end.

I would think people who buy 175,000 watches do not shop on Ebay, and a watch like this would be a face to face tranactions.

Many Collectors buy off Ebay. All different prices. Ebay gets a bad reputation because of all the junk and scammers but if you know how to use ebay correctly you can find some great deals. Im completely comfortable buying off ebay....but would never sell there.

Not sure why ebay has a bad reputation. I've been buying and selling on ebay for 15 years (although for watches, more selling than buying in the last 5 years). I believe if you want to know the market for something, put it on ebay and start the bidding at 99cents.

I would think their would be some professional neutral business that performs transactions like this keeping it legit on both sides providing security, authentication, money transfers, safety for both parties.

I wouldn't touch that watch with a 175 foot poll especially at $175,000!

eBay/Paypal retains the right to pull the money out of your account if they get the slightest whisper of a complaint from the buyer. Many of the buyers are not fine people. I had one dude in NZ try to extort $300 from me to repair an AS-IS watch for which he had paid $95. If you want to do business on eBay for any item over $350, my recommendation would be to insist on wire-transfer instead of PayPal. Makes it harder for the criminals to take YOUR money.

I've heard a lot of good, but some really bad things about Maron. What's the general consensus here? I know I've run into some posts about re-dials and whatnot.

In my opinion, The Maron Co. is as good as it gets. I have dealt with them numerous times. My buying/selling experience with them were always top notch.
With that being said, I would contact him directly and bypass ebay.

Thanks, good to know.

I do understand some of the skepticism though. Check out this link: http://robertmaron.com/product.php?p...cat=265&page=7

Honestly, this would possibly be the first time a watch like this has ever surfaced. This doesn't even really match up with a 16550 cream dial, as far as color. I don't care to taint the guy's rep, he's obviously known enough to have eyes on him, but it should be at least talked about to some degree.

Wow, what a watch!

I think I'd rather get the Panda version!
