AP price rise - did it actually happen
I was under the impression that the price rise was due 2nd jan, but looking at online ADs here in the UK (watch gallery) it doesn't seem to have happened...can anyone confirm if any ADs have bumped the price up?

Dealer margins went down, retail stayed the same. Also mainstays like the Panda, Safari have been subjected to lower production runs.

Have only seen steel pieces so far but it looked like a $400 dollar increase on royal oaks.

In Singapore, the MSRP for most of the SS models and popular models (incl FC, ceramic, novelties, 4101, etc) have seen increase from 2-4%, but the gold pieces such as RGRC, RG44mm, RG RO Skeleton, etc have minor reduction of 1-2%.

It seems like those are mostly modest price increases. I doubt it will affect the people who want to buy an AP.

Well, for those paying full retail, the price increases have been negligible. However, some gray dealers have increased pricing between 10-15%, which presumably was what ap was hoping to achieve.

It's not so much the reatil price increase guys, it's the dealer cost has gone up 10% which makes it in turn more expensive for us dealers buying them.

Giving the boutiques an advantage...their internal wholesale price is lower than ADs. When ADs can afford less consideration, boutiques become a more viable alternative.

The FC diver has gone up over £1,000 to £20,000. Can't say I understand the logic in raising the price of a model when most people aren't currently willing to pay the original retail price in the first place (grey dealers seem to be selling them for about £14,500). When you add to the mix raising the wholesale price as well it makes even less sense to me.
If AP really want to stop heavy discounting they need to price some of their watches more keenly to begin with. I think the 15400 is actually quite well priced when compared to other brands. However, many of the ROOs, like the FC diver, in my view, are unrealistically priced. It is, therefore, unsurprising people want/expect discounts. I think merely raising the retail and wholesale prices is unlikely to solve this problem. Buyers need to believe that the retail price is close to the real/perceived value of the watch. It seems to me that people are willing to pay £5,000 for a new Rolex sub with little or no discount because they believe the real value of the watch (i.e. taking everything in to account such as quality, heritage, desirability, brand recognition etc.) is some where close to the retail price. Anyway time will tell if this is the right strategy. |

I look at other sport watches for example Hublot, believe me I have had both and much prefer ap roo but they answered there customers by 1 in house movement, 2 updated the big bang in which I personally think they look awesome. They are priced in the mid to low 20s with there new big bang and in house movement. Add discount and you have a great watch for the price. The roo is 15 to 18 thousand more. Will this make people look at different choices? Not here to compare brands but just a thought .
