Sub Date about +8 seconds per day -- time to regulate? Scared.

Good morning All-
my sub date is running about 8 seconds per day fast. It is an M serial number that has not been worn for a while (unsure as to how long but possibly as long as 2-3 months - I purchased it used). I have never had a watch regulated and to be quite honest I am afraid! The 8 seconds don't bother me thaaat much, but just enough that I thought to ask some thoughts of those here. I'm told by the Rolex AD it takes only 15-30 mins. I'm afraid it won't be waterproof afterwards, all crazy things going on in my head. Like he said something about "the screws" - that sounds quite scary....What if regulated and then it's worse?? Anyone with experience similar to this, please let me know! I should say I did the 40 winds, etc. Leaving on nightstand for about 5 hours, crown down...etc. still 8 seconds.

If it's regulated it will also be pressure tested to ensure it is waterproof. At plus 8, I would get it done.

I say it is fine for now unless a maintenance is due. I would request a regulation at that point.

Knowing its a few years old and also knowing that it would require a service soon... I wouldn't touch it until it really starts to run fast, like 15 seconds plus.

Get it regulated. COSC specs are extremely easy to achieve and I would expect any Rolex to cut COSC in 1/2. Don't let your fear win over. You are going to have the watch serviced many many time during your relationship. Get the watch running correctly. Any watch that runs out of spec could be a big indicator it needs service anyway.

Seeing watch is a M serial from 2007/8 watch could be due for a full service sooner than later.I would wait till you get the watch serviced just cannot see the point of getting back off to regulate when your could need a full service.And even if your watch is +8 seconds its still 99.992% accurate out of 86400 seconds in a day.Now regulation is quite a simple task 30 minute job start to finish and that's including pressure check after.But unless you find a independent watchmaker or a AD that has a watchmaker in store,then most ADs will send it back to the RSC. And regulation would take between 2-4 weeks before you get watch back, but seeing watch is +5 years old they might refuse until a full service is done.

My SubC (Less than 1 year old) is running +10 Seconds fast.

I had the same worries as you but thought it's better off being checked over by the specialists.

Mine's been gone 9 days so far and counting

I was quoted 8 weeks for regulation. (Last week).

I really wanted to take it to London as you suggested to be done whilst I waited however it would have taken me about 7 weeks to get a free weekend to go so handed it over to my local AD.

Waiting patiently as we speak...

I would get it regulated if the variance bothers you, as it isn't a major job that would jeopardize the watch's integrity assuming the watchmaker is competent and diligent. I've had my vintage GMT regulated many times over the decades, most of those not followed by pressure checks, and it is still running along fine. I've even thought about tooling up to do regulation myself but have put that aspiration off for the time being.

Hello, I had a M-serial Sub Date that was running about 2-3 mins fast per week. It was still under warranty, so I sent it in via the AD to Dallas RSC. They returned it to COSC: +6/-4 per day.

Given that its a good idea to service a rolex every 5-7 years, this may be a good time to send it in. I believe currently RSC charges ~$650 for the basic service which includes the replacement crystal. Worth every cent.

The hardest part is the wait, which is usually 4 weeks turnaround.

Had a similar issue with a new Exp2. However I was losing about that many sec a day, not gaining. Finally took it back to AD, they quoted me at 8 week turnaround however after speaking to RSC they said it would be 4 weeks, and ship no later than end of this month... Also doing a free service since its under warranty, which I was totally shocked to hear. Should be picking it up soon enough. As for your situation, either find an independent watch maker locally to do the regulation since it will be much cheaper and faster, or wait till you send it in for service and have them do it then, seems like you should be due for one soon.

I doubt an RSC would regulate it this close to a normal service interval. I would wait and do it when the service is performed. Good luck....
