Rolex and the Dentist

I had a dental appointment today at the VAMC and after the dental assistant took all the X-rays and got me situated in an exam room, the dentist comes in and the first thing he does is compliment me on my watch. I was wearing the BLNR.

Some of the things he said indicated that he knew something about the watch, such as he liked the color combination more than the BLRO.

I took it off and showed him how the clasp worked and he was quite impressed, although I don't think it's the first he'd seen.

So, for those who don't think people notice your watches, here's an example of someone who did.

Fortunately for me, the Department of Veterans' Affairs covers all my medical and dental expenses and despite a lot of the bad publicity of late, the Albuquerque Veterans' Affairs Medical Center has rendered me excellent care.

Anyway, he's not out for my money and in fact, because I've taken pretty good care of my teeth through the years, they're going to go all out to save a couple of molars that I might otherwise lose in a few years, which may be more years that I have, but I do appreciate the effort and if it helps to train one more medical professional all the better.

Sadly Michael Kors does make Daytona look-a-likes

I notice what my patients are wearing but never strike up a conversation unless they notice mine first.

BTW, I love the Chris Rock bit about his neighbor!

That's very true and it was a nice ice breaker, as it was my first time meeting him.

He said that he wasn't sure if he would ever be able to afford a Rolex, but I have a feeling that he'll get there with no problems. He did seem like a budding watch guy.

That's a dentist I would not trust. Anyone can lose teeth for various reason, but nobody has to buy one of those watches.

My dentist and I sort of have a competition going. Every time I go for a check-up we both have different watches on; I have a number of Russian pilot watches, so I feel confident I will eventually beat him.

My dentist had a Breitling, I commented on his nice watch and asked for a pic for "the archives". No problem. Good times, I thought, finally someone I can discuss important matters with.

But then he started a rant about Breitlings superiority over Rolex and its stupid wannabee owners. So much for the nice atmosphere. I was in for a root canal, so I had no choice but to quietly implode and keep my Explorer in my pocket:)

If he can't even keep his bezel properly zeroed there's no reason to even listen to him...

His Breitling doesn't do a thing for me.

My dentist caught me taking this:

He's also a Rolex owner but doesn't wear it while working, and still ribs me about the pic to this day.

My dentist has never commented on my DJ but the med tech did use my Rolex to tape down the IV when I last gave blood...

Great looking watch. Really clean photo too.

My dentist is right handed and sits at my right side when I am in the chair. I keep a pair of needle nosed pliers in my right front pants pocket. While is looking towards my mouth, I withdraw the pliers and click them together a few times just near my pocket while saying, "Now doctor - we're not going to hurt each other today, are we?"

He usually doesn't notice my watch after that.
