Famous People You Have Met

As the title says, which famous people have you met?
I'll start.

I have met King Felipe VI of Spain.

Me and a friend sat and had a drink and a chat with him many years ago in a bar in Majorca. He was Prince Felipe then. Nice guy.

Just shaking a hand or having a few drinks together unformal makes the big difference . . .

A few days after 9/11, we went to see the World Trade Center. We had to walk the last 7 blocks or so and the street was empty except for a few firemen. The air was so thick with smoke we could hardly breathe.

Walking the street, coming from the WTC wreckage, was Mayor Guiliani with a posse of police and firemen. I recognized him and yelled out to him. He walked over and reached over the metal barricade (between the street and sidewalk) to shake my hand. The wife struggled to get our throw-away camera out of her purse. She managed to snap a photo before the Mayor left, but is only of our hands. The Mayor, and we, were very emotional.

FYI, we were in NYC on vacation, unrelated to the attack. We made it to the wreckage with a small crowd, and watched the firemen at work. The smoke was so poisonous we could not stay long, and we were breathing through napkins.

I used to work for Rangers Football Club and used to meet quite a few famous people.

Probably one of the most famous ones was Sean Connery. I met Mr Connery quite a few times as he was a regular at Ibrox. A really down to earth and nice guy.

I also met quite a few famous footballers during my time with Rangers including Lionel Messi. Again, quite a nice and down to Earth guy who just loves playing football.

I met many of my footballing heroes as I am a huge Rangers fan but not many you guys would know.

I've met a number of New Orleans musicians who, while not very well known in the US, have been quite famous abroad.

I've met others and worked with some who have been nationally and internationally prominent, too.

A few of the now more famous ones I met when they were children because I was either working in a setting where their fathers were playing or in attendance or because I knew the families well enough to visit their homes from time to time.

The thing that's odd about these folks is that when their in New Orleans, they're just regular folks that you run into at the grocery store or they have relatives that live your neighborhood and in some cases they live in your neighborhood.

This is also true of sports figures.

I once almost got into a fight with a nationally prominent musician over a woman, but the details of that are best left unsaid.

Lots of famous folks but these stand out for me:

My good friend Jack "Goose" Givens. Go UK!

Ashley Judd (hot!!) with at-the-time husband Dario Franchitti (super cool!) in my box at a race.

Gunny Lee Ermey was super cool on a flight. Really tall!

I had brunch one table over from Carl Malden once at a mountainside inn off Mulholland drive in the 80's. Had another brunch in the same room as Stanley Tucci in Manhattan. I don't get out much. LOL

Can't think of any huge A listers off hand that I've personally met, but living in Southern California I've obviously had some encounters.

The one that stands out:

In the 70's on the Pacific Coast Highway headed to Zuma Beach we come to the stoplight at the entrance to the Malibu Colony, an exclusive ocean front community. A 6.9 Mercedes pulls into the left turn lane next to us going into the Colony. Back in those days the car itself was enough to warrant a look. So I glance over and it's Steve McQueen behind the wheel and Ali McGraw sitting next to him. In the back was an assistant of some sort taking notes about one thing or other. He flashed us the peace sign. No question, the guy simply exuded "cool".

Very true. Many hockey stars (and their significant others) grew up in blue-collar towns and maintain the same group of friends they were raised with. The only difference is they cash much larger paychecks.

Living in So. Cal., I've met a few...bowled with Drew Carey and Ben Stein (not at the same time), and you see famous people in restaurants now and again, but more often in the grocery store, etc.

Met Wolfgang Puck when I ate at his restaurant, Cut. He went around to each and every table and said hello and chatted with people.

Lots of politicians and business leaders. Most recently, flew from Detroit to Las Vegas with Les Stroud (aka Survivorman). Neat guy who autographed some pictures for my boys.

I sat next to David Schwimmer, Friends actor, on a flight from NYC to Chicago. Talked to him most of the flight. Really nice guy.

I shared a couple beers with Ted Turner in Bozeman, MT. He came into a bar/restaurant and sat next to father and I. We talked to him for a couple of hours. Really interesting guy. Several of my relatives homesteaded Bozeman and a couple of them were born on the ranch he now owns, The Flying D Ranch.

I have also met Peter Fonda in Bozeman. He lives full time in Livingston, MT. Peter and his wife sat next to me at Shakespeare in the Park.

And last but not least, I played pool with Jeff Bridges while hanging out at a bar in Bozeman, MT! A lot of movie stars live in the Bozeman area either part time or full time. My mom just met John Mayer in Livingston while she was eating at a restaurant a couple of weeks ago.

Great series. Bought the set on sale on blu-ray at Wal-Mart for $30. Of all the people i met and may meet, i am saddened to say that i will never be able to meet the men of WWII. The heroes are going home if you ask me.

""""Haha - I hate to say it, but he played the jerk (as depicted in the movie) well. Reportedly the real Soebel's family refuted his portrayal. But in all fairness, that "jerk" jumped into Normandy (independent of Easy Company), fought, and later returned to service in Korea. His training of Easy Company, as harsh and miserable as it was, probably saved some of their lives.""""

I could see where they might. Training hard and harsh engrains into the mind a certain way of thinking. One might say that it is the only way to do it and i would agree deepening on the subject of training. While he may have played the character harsh and possibly false you can never know unless you were there. I think though, for David Schwimmer to play such a character after playing Ross on "Friends" for a while was a good thing for his career and him personally. When an actor or someone who lives in the public eye, a change of role or scenery is good for the mind.

American Pickers --( pre TV show.)
Mike Wolfe is just a real jack***.
Told a story about trading a six pack of beer to farmer for a$80,000-100,000 motorcycle. Really has no conscience.
Felt like I needed a shower after talking to him.
Frank Fritz kind of a whiny cry baby.

Alan Page -- vikings
Rich Gannon -- vikings
Famous Dave (BBQ)

Morgan Freeman on. Venice Beach

I have met a few, but the only ones that mattered to me were the three Medal of Honor winners I had the pleasure to meet.
