Would you buy a watch you wouldn't wear to work?
Basically a weekend only watch.

I specifically have a "work" watch which is not a Rolex. I thoroughly enjoy my Rolex on my days off. :-)

Answered no.
But it's not that simple. I have noticed I don't reach for my Panerai when work is in a suit, only because it doesn't fit as nicely as other watches under the shirt cuff. Then I am thinking about getting a grail watch and although I don't have it, I suppose I may not wear it to my job when I wasn't wearing a suit (instead doing the physical aspect of my work) |

Of course. Just like you buy shoes or a suit you wouldn't wear to work. You could even buy a second car that you wouldn't dare drive to work.

If it makes any sense, I would buy a watch I wouldn't wear to work so long as I already one that I loved that I was willing to wear to work.

I learned my lesson once by destroying the ceramic and sapphire of a GMTIIC against a steel object briskly moving through my kitchen at work. I'm happy wearing my $150 seiko and it's held up great. I could see wearing a fancy watch in a suit and tie environment but not mine. Why risk unnecessary wear and damage?

Yes for sure.
An example would be a solid gold Rolex, which I would preserve only for special events. |

To answer the poll, no. If a watch is too inappropriate to wear to work for some reason, I probably don't want it anyway. Gold or steel, sport or dress or somewhere in between, I've worn all of mine to work and to play. |

A couple of my watches don't really see office time. I like it that way. I have watches to fit certain occasions and it makes me happy when I get to wear a particular watch because it fits that day's activities/dress. Cheers

As long as they are insured then its OK? My work colleagues, who know about my passion and the true cost of the actual watch, think that I am mad Which is probably true.

I wear all of mine at work but only some on the weekend. I find it is easier to dress up a watch than to dress some down

I think it depends on why you're not able to wear it, specifically if it is because it is at risk of damage or because it is too showy.

Sure! Chances are you will end up wearing to the office anyway.

Yes. Though I don't specifically exclude pieces, it is hard to tuck a DSSD under cuffs on a trim fit shirt. Even my DJ has to stay in the safe some shirts. The nomos orion comes in handy those days.
