SS Daytona 6265 circa 1980
with silver face and black dials - I have had this watch for 28 years - wondering what it might be worth and unfortunately considering whether to sell it. Looking for a good place around NYC to help figure this out.

Hi,
I can't help with anywhere to sell your watch in NYC as I'm in the UK, but here at a dealers you would expect to pay between £16,500 GBP and £18,000 GBP for a very nice example on its own and upwards of £25,000 GBP for one with Box and Papers etc..... I guess in the States it would be between $35,000 and 50,000 USD depending on condition and what you have with it box/papers etc..... I hope this is of some help. |

As you may be aware, these Daytonas are quite sought after. Prices paid are subject to many variables, which include but are not limited to the following:
- Complete package, ie. box and papers, booklets, etc. - Service records (if any) - Original parts, in particular the dial and hands. Rolex sometimes changed the dial if they were damaged, and although they ARE original and genuine Rolex parts, they vary slightly and hence this is reflected (downwards) in the price. - Exotic (aka Paul Newman) style dial. This adds $$$$$$$. - Overall condition of watch, including any 'significant' history surrounding the watch. Collectors will pay a premium for the most stangest things!!! However, to answer your question, prices will vary from US$25,000 - $60,000, however if it has the exotic style dial, then you would expect values of around US$70,000 - $150,000+. Good luck, and please post us a few pics. John. |

Rolex 6265 Prices in NYC
I paid $25,000 for my white 6265 in 2005 and $16,000 for the black 6265 in 2002.
Both with box and papers......wait until after the Rolex Auction in NYC today......it should fetch a higher price!. Good Luck. |

I had forgotten to answer your question.
You should be getting $35,000 modestly considering the 6265 is in fairly good condtion!. Send me a pic, maybe I'll take it off your hands!. Good Luck!. |

Picture of watch
Hi -
I apparently have low photographic skills, but here is a pic. The watch was purchased at Betteridges in Greenwich CT in 1980 and has only ever been serviced there. It has not been worn much in the last 10 or so years - only one owner - me. It needs a clean up. I vaguely remember replacing the bezel in the mid-80s b/c numbers wore off. Look forward to hearing what you all think. Thanks. |

Bracelet
Original bracelet - a little loose now - but that is how it came - from what I understand - a bit different.

She's a beauty. Original dial and hands. It wasn't uncommon for AD's to change bracelets in those days. Pity about the bezel, not a big issue though. There were in fact four (4) different types of these steel bezels over the years. All four were slighty different. Without actually seeing the watch in person, I would say it's worth around US$30-40k. US$10k+ more if you can find the original papers. John. |
