AD's selling over list price

I was browsing an AD display over the weekend here in London and noticed that the prices advertised on current new model watches were over the Rolex UK RRP. Are the AD's free to set their own prices?

In the US Rolex ADs aren't supposed to sell new watches above MSRP but will sell the same watch used for above list... creating some anomalies when they somehow have a recent-issue, high demand watch in the "pre-loved" case.

I'm surprised they do any business selling above RRP when I've never seen anybody else doing it. You should name and shame them

I wouldn't buy any watch above MSRP no matter how bad I wanted it.

That kind of action is a big no-no for ADs here in the states.

I believe people have reported Turdneau of selling used Daytonas for more than the current MRSP. I have not personally seen this, however.

I witnessed that very thing in the Tourneau in the Houston Galleria a few months back. They were "trying" to sell a preowned Daytona black dial for $12,400. I was disgusted and will solely use them for viewing purposes only and then buy elsewhere.

I've never seen a UK AD have anything except the official prices in their window, but I've only been viewing for about 12 months.....
I have however seen a small jeweller asking £3500 for a 2 year old ceramic Omega SeaMaster 300m when the same (current) model is available new here at the list price of £2770....

A bit of info to share from this part of Asia involving R boutique. Though they will never list price above RRP, specific hot models are sold above RRP due to shortage and even the grey are selling above RRP. The invoice will be at RRP and the top-up paid separately without invoice.

What part of Asia are you in? It happens here in Hong Kong. I've heard from several sources that local ADs have been asking about 10-15% above RRP for the DSSD Blue. Price gouging was even worse for the Milgauss GV when it first appeared.

Yes. I absolutely agree. Same here in Malaysia. DSSD Blue and BLNR. Suprisingly SD4000 has a good discount amongst most models. They were saying that its not selling as good as others.

It's the same here in Singapore, Adam.

The steel Daytona regularly commands a premium over the recommended retail price at ADs, and I believe the same might currently apply to the DSSD blue. As for the GV - yes, it sold for twice the MRSP when it first appeared!

However, ADs are very clever when they do charge a premium - the receipt they issue simply says "A Rolex watch'' or even just "Watch'' under "description'' which is suitably vague and ensures the receipt can't be used as evidence of overcharging.

Very common practice for AD's in Asian market.

Every single watch, and compared to the latest price list?

I've never seen this. If true, this would be the first of the such I'm aware of in the UK.

Do you have any specifics?

I only checked one watch. The GMT Master was priced at GBP5,800.00 , when list in UK is GBP5,600.00

The retailer was Watches Of Switzerland , in Oxford Street , London. They are an AD.
I can only assume that as this is a major tourist shopping street they are taking advantage of that , probably selling "tax free" to tourists who don't study the price that closely.

Never seen new over msrp. "New" being sold as "Used" on Daytona to make a bigger buck, Yep. Every AD I have been in that sees i am wearing a DSSD miraculously has a new Daytona in the safe.

My AD has a "not for sale" case. Small wall case that has a 50th and a few other rare pieces in it, that I am sure would be removed for the right $$.
