Who would you allow to borrow/wear your Rolex?

Just wondering,

How protective are you about your Rolex(es)?

As for me, short answer: NO ONE, absolutely NO ONE.

My wife asked to borrow my Rolex.
My response "HA HA HA ... Over my deadbody honey!!

My daughters asked to borrow my Rolex.
My response "HA HA HA ... Over my deadbody kiddo!!

My mom asked to borrow my Rolex.
My response "HA HA HA ... see ya lata mama!!

In the above cases, I never gave them my Rolex, simply because I believe in the most fundamental principle -- You wanna take care of soemthing, take care of it yourself. Otherwise it is you who is reponsible for the damage to the item and have no one to blame but yourself.

So you can see, I am not too protective about my rollies... How about you guys?

Out of those who say "it is just a watch", you will still get a heart attack when you get that phone call "honey/dad/son/bro/buddy, I dropped it on the sidewalk and it stopped ticking..what do I do now?.."

My wife has worn my sub before on trips. She doesn't wear watches all the time, but I don't mind if she wants to...

I agree. But my wife never asks to wear one of my watches. She prefers her Cartier Tank Francaise or Piaget Polo.

Wife, daughter, son etc... I agree. Perhaps brother. Beyond that, no.

I have enough to go around so I don't mind if my family wants to borrow any pieces - as long as I'm not wearing it.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum. I've swapped watches with a forum friend for months to "test ride" one. I've also handed my watch to people I've just met who noticed it.

My brother has worn mine every now and then. My wife has worn the Sub a few times. I'm careful with my watches but they are family, can't refuse! Not looking forward to my son and daughters teen age years! Yikes!

I would let my partner wear my Rolex but he refuses and I have to force it on to his wrist. I would let my mother wear it but she seems to be allergic to watches I tried to give her my Date 15013 and she started said it made her skin itch. With my partner he complains that every watch is too heavy.

Interesting thread! I've never had anyone ask to borrow anything more than a car (yet) - my children are still in elementary school - so I'm sure that will change.

I suppose I would understand if someone wanted to borrow a watch for a special occasion, but most of my friends are older and generally have nicer possessions than I do. It would be strange for one to come to me asking.

No one. The best I can allow is to let someone try it on and even that is difficult.

It's just a watch...

My father and brother can borrow any of my Rolexes when I'm not wearing them myself (and any other family member for that matter).

Not my kids, but they are 12 and 11. My wife has her own Rolex but usually prefers to wear POS fashion watches. Not a lot of friends that I would let borrow it for an extended period of time, likely because they would never ask. If it is a piece, like my DJ that is "broken in" with scratches and a good friend asked to wear for a special occasion, absolutely would I let them.

I'd prefer not to lend my watch either, however with the right person I'd certainly make an exception. It'd have to be someone close that understands how much it means to me, and how to treat it. With that being said, I certainly don't baby my watch but I do make a conscience effort to not smash it.

Both my wife and my 3 year old son have worn it before (on nato under supervision) since after all - it is his watch... I'm just borrowing it for the first 20+ years :)

It's an interesting question..

Nobody has ever dared ask if they could just borrow one of my multi-thousand dollar watches just to bum around with..

I suppose that I would just smile or chuckle a bit as I walked away..

I would let family of course and my closest friends borrow my gmt2c as it has tons of character already....Sub is still fairly new and I wear it too often and AP, PP forget it.

That said, nobody has ever asked. I did offer my GF to wear my rolex once but she had not interest as its much too big for her wrist.

I know we all value our pieces, but do you not think your nephew/cousin/whoever, values their $300 buck Citizen/$600 buck Tissot, just as much?

I think as long as you know that the person in question respects their own things and understands that you want your Rolex respected while in their care, why not let them borrow it?

Share the wealth, I say...
