Thinking about handing over the keys to my Bmw E92 M3..
What's next!? This is what I'm battling with right now. Its hard to get out of other car for what you get out of an V8 M3 for the price. I've had the car since 2011, making my M3 my longest owned vehicle. I go through cars quick, but this one was my favorite yet, making it really hard to sell it before. I already have two friends who are serious about buying it from me.
You may have read about my popular thread about getting a 2013 motor replacement with 0 miles and extended warranty. Read Here: http://www.m3post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=945034 The car itself has 10's of thousands of miles left since I have a new engine - so 1 option is to keep it and enjoy it for 50-60k more miles, then sell... Anyway, the question remains...If I sold, What's next? I'm humbly asking you all for your opinion, what is a good replacement to my M3? I don't plan on spending more than $60-$65k, and I want euro. So far I'm only thinking (2007) 997 TT or (2010+) C2S. I'm open to ideas & suggestions. Not sure I want to jump to an M4 or M5 - it seems too familiar. Never owned a P-Car.. My car has 64,000 miles. I saw this thread below, so it makes me feel pretty comfortable with retail and selling it to a friend since I know there shouldn't be any issues... What about something like in the pic the RS series from Audi would be interesting??
RS5 is V8 and all wheel drive. Or maybe something from AMG? |

Personally, I'd wait for the W205 C63 AMG. BEAST!

I just bought a 997... First dip in the pool. I'd go NA first, then re-evaluate.
Have noticed tt's are rapidly depreciating now tho. |

I would try Audi or Porsche at that price point. You should be able to find a great preowned example with several models to choose from by either make. I've had several BMWs so know they are great cars. When it comes to replacing one of mine I will likely choose one of the above.

Cayman gts no doubt! Drove it on a track when it debuted alongside the 991 targa 4s and it was much more entertaining

Coming from a monster V8 in the E92 M3, I highly doubt that a 997 (C2S or TT), can suitably fill that gap. Manual will be far better over Tiptronic, but there will certainly be a void left unfilled. I don't know local prices on your side, but if I were you, I would seriously consider a 991 C2S- a far more superior sports car than its predecessor(s).

My vote at that level would be a 991 Porsche Carrera S but time to move on to a PDK transmission, so fast so amazing

^Absolutely spot on. PDK is such a major leap forward from the sluggish Tiptronic. The 991 C2S itself is an absolutely spectacular machine. Not mind blowing fast (certainly not slow!!), but the way it handles, looks, sounds (sports exhaust, please!)... phenomenal.

While I'm sure it's fast, that MB C63 is pretty ugly IMO.
RS5 is tempting, but it's drawing towards the end of its design life, and you would be wise to wait for the next model. I suspect we'll see some significant improvements on the engine side of things. If you go Porsche, you'll want to at least get a C2S. Go 2009 or newer so you can get PDK. Maybe a Cayman.. I honestly don't follow them much. Not much on the BMW side really. M6 would be sweet, but very pricey - too pricey IMO. They depreciate like 911s do in their first 2-3 years. Unless something is really pulling at your heart strings, I'd wait. The E92 M3 is a fantastic car, and will hold its value well going forward. If you have people lined up to buy it, that should tell you something.. |
