Newbie looking for Red Sub -- would like input on this one
Hi everyone, I'm a longtime Rolex fan and finally in the market for a vintage 1680 Red Sub. I've been looking for a few months and prefer watches with a cheddar/mustard patina on the dial markers. I found this one currently listed on ebay:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/271811368575...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT From the writing on the dial it appears to be a Mark VI and the serial number supports this. However, according to the Rolex Red Sub Primer by Mark Lerman (http://rolex.watchprosite.com/show-f...ti-649211/s-0/), Mark VIs should have the word 'Submariner' printed in red directly on the dial (as opposed to red over white), and this particular 1680 seems to have some white showing on the letter E. Also Mark VIs should have a closed 6 where the depth is written in feet, yet this one has slightly open 6s. Also, the case has been polished quite a bit, which doesn't bother me but I hear that is not particularly desirable. I'd love to get some opinions on the above anomalies. Thanks so much! |

Yep... junk. Just my opinion, of course. Others may vary. Looks all wrong to me.

It looks off to me (coronet and the cyclops mag, etc). Compare it to this one from HQ:

Thanks for all the replies! Too many red flags on this one so I'll keep looking. Cheers
