16800 Matte Dial Help
I need some help on the serial number of this 16800. The serial number of R154xxx dates it to around 1987 from what I've read. I had read the dials transitioned to glossy sometimes in 1985-86 so this serial number would be pushing it a bit with this dial
Has anyone seen a matte dial from this year? I love the patina but would like to hear from the experts before finalizing the deal on this watch. Thanks! |

An "R" serial number would not be considered within the range for the matte dial era for the 16800 Submariner. Production ended closer to 1983, possibly 1984, well before the "R" prefix was made. While it might be possible, I would not consider it probable.

I think the odds are fairly slim to none but doesn't hurt to ask.
Thanks! |
