Adding a DJ to a sports collection?

Hi,

I have been lurking around this forum for the past few months. I have acquired an Explorer 39mm, GMTii 16710 and a SubC. I love the sports range models. I find that the above 3 are just so complimentary of each other.

However, lately I have been thinking of the 116234. Somehow the DJ keeps coming to mind. I am surprised as all my current watches are 40mm and here I am thinking of the 36mm watch. I have tried the DJ2 and I don't like it on my wrist is 6 and 3/4 inches.

My wife has a DJ 31mm and I would like one to complement hers.

I wonder why my heart is calling out to this classic model....sigh.

Now I know why this is called a sickness.

Has anyone had such a similar journey?

My wrist is 6.75 and I think my 36mm DJ fits better than any of my 40mm watches. I also think that the DJ is a sports watch, albeit on the dressier side.

If we didn't change our tastes, then the watch industry would be out of business! I know the watch I wear on a given day depends on what strikes me and what I'll be doing or wearing. Having a variety of watches, budget allowing, let's you add a little something different to your wardrobe and daily routine. The dj and dj2 are both strikingly beautiful watches, and it's nice that you would have something to share with your wife.

I know over the years my tastes have changed, but, there are some watches that simply stand the test of time. I think all of the ones you have and the dj are those types of watches for sure.

I do prefer the Oyster braclet over the jubilee for its sportier look although my wife is bugging me for a jubilee to completely match hers....

I do need to save up though....

I have a similar sports collection, and I recently added a dj 1603, this is a 1960's model, thin, plastic and filled with vintage coolness. I highly recommend a vintage datejust:

pick up a mid to late 80's black or silver dial ( black is a bit more sporty but may look too similar to your exp I ) DJ on SS jubilee QS and sapphire and never look back . i just traded one towards a EXP II polar and already regret it . the investment is minimal and you will love the jubilee once you have one on your wrist !

or as another option , grab just a jubilee bracelet and wear it on the explorer 1 when the wife is bugging ya to match !

Nobody needs anything more than a sub it answers all questions. But we want more the 36 on your wrist would be awesome it looks great on a 7.5in wrist as well

I think it will work very well with your collection. I too have a GMTIIc and Sub, then added my DJ. Makes for a solid set up.

There´s always room for a DJ in a collection. Especially with the 116234 giving you so many beautiful dials to choose from.

I really like the DJ, but honestly, the explorer I isn't all that different, and sounds like you're not in love with the DJ, have you looked at any other brands? If you're looking for something more formal, there are a lot of other great dress watches out there.

I love the Explorer yet remain undecided over the DJ. The DJ I want would have fluted bezel, Oyster bracelet and a similar dial that my wife has.

True, there are more similarities than differences with the Explorer. When I first had the Explorer, I didn't like the cyclops. Somehow owning a pre owned 16710 changed my mind. I don't adore the cyclops now but I could see its usefulness.

The DJ seems to grow on me. It's a classic.
I don't really like a TT as I think it may stand out. Asit is, I am the only one in my department owning a Rolex.

Funny you mention TT, since the only TT DJII I like is the slate dial with green romans. I thought I always never cared for TT, but that specific model really swung me.

There are very few watches in the Rolex line up that surpass the beauty of the model above. Love the fluted bezel and Jubilee bracelet combination.

You can't go wrong. I think a SS DJ with a fluted bezel on an Oyster bracelet (all brushed links) gives it a different and more sporty look. The combinations are almost endless. Enjoy!

The thing about this hobby is you don't have to follow any "rules". Get what strikes you and enjoy it.

DJ design will never go out dated and go for it and I think you will enjoy as much as your other sport models

You've got a great range of SS sports Rolexes. A DJ on jubilee/super jubilee or a strap would be a great change of pace.

I too fell victim of a DJ. I think normal behavior
