Selfish thoughts on SS Daytona
I've long for a SS black Daytona for a couple of years and back then was hoping for a ceramic SS Daytona as many models such as the sub, GMT, and YMII were all making their way into the market with cerachrom.
Fast forward two years and as many of you know, two weeks ago I purchased the black 116520!!! Although I haven't had the time to write a review, I only have positive things to say about it. Mainly the curved case which wraps your whole wrist allowing perfect comfort. Also the size... I've been wanting a ceramic Daytona and mainly because it would make the watch wear larger. Now that I've got my "Grail" I have this selfish thought of hoping they will keep the SS Daytona as is without any improvements as I find it perfect now. I guess in a sense I'm hoping for it to be kept the way it is so that the "Rolex bug" won't bite again if they do release a ceramic version. I'm sure some of you may share the same views while others won't. Not meaning to offend anyone as this thread is just reflecting my own feelings towards a new ceramic Daytona. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what comes up in Basel 2016 and whether that bug will strike again?!

I agree, the ceramic bezel will make it wear larger.
I'm not fussed, I'm not sure how they could strictly improve the Daytona; they can change the aesthetics, to which end they've already shown they're happy to put ceramic on the Daytona in PM variants. I'd assume eventually we will see a ceramic bezel on an SS model. |

Unless they decide to maxi dial the hour markers but then again it's 3 sub dials take a lot of space already.

I suspect there will eventually be a ceramic ss model in the future, and it will likely be freaking awesome. Until then though, I will happily enjoy what I have. Life's too short to wait for a watch that doesn't exist.

The SS Daytona is stunning and I hope it is left alone
The bezel to me is very blingy and I think really makes the watch pop and actually wear larger I love the SS model (well and ceramic also!) |

I agree, Tom. I hope they leave the SS model as is. Why mess with perfection?

To each their own ... I'm not yet warming up to rubber straps on the Rolex lineup and think the Daytona looks perfect on bracelet and leather as it can be dressed up for a formal event

Might consider adding a white dial as it looks so crisp! Gorgeous watch there Tom

Would that movement work on a chrono? Also don't we already have a long power reserve being 72 hours on the 4130?

I hope Rolex does not change the SS Daytona also and so I admit my selfishness too. It's a pricey piece and I don't want to be tempted with another!
I believe it's been 15 years since 116520 has been introduced so it's not incomprehensible for a revision sometime in the next 5-10 years. I think this because the 5 digit subs ran for about 20+ years. Rolex moves slowly and surely. I like that. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk while driving down the interstate at 75 mph

I think you're safe...don't see any ceramic in the near future-or ever for that matter.
Of course, no one really knows, but I think you can take that off the list of things to worry about. |

I was waiting for the cerachrom bezel on the Daytona update too... was even thinking about possibly getting a rose gold Daytona with the cerachrom bezel (but ultimately decided not to because I didn't want the leather band). Went ahead and purchased the stainless Daytona and very happy with it, don't think they will be adding the cerachrom bezel any time soon.

Don't see a new movement for a long time. 20 plus years IMO.

I do not see the 116520 being revised for quite some time. The 16610 went on for 20 years... so figure we have another 5 years or so! The proportions are nearly perfect on the Daytona I really can't see any type of improvement other than dial choices on the SS model. Once it becomes a maxi size case w/ceramic I do not know how I will feel about it.
For now, this is all the watch I will ever need. I may go for another model sooner or later, but the Daytona will always be the watch for me! |

I love the current daytona as much as the next guy, but call me crazy, I miss the things that make a watch age gracefully, dial patina, acrylic crystal... I like the screw down pushers, but I think they look odd when unscrewed. I'm not really keen the big crown guard either.
