Mini-Incoming

Got my wife her first Rolex last summer, a Hulk, which she wears religiously. Last weekend was at a casino with my buddy who gambles too much and compiles points that can be used to purchase things like watches. He is ultimately responsible for my newfound costly hobby called Rolex pursuit and occasional capture. I have a tt blue sub and a 114060 to show for it. In any case, he had gone on a small (for him) gaming jag and ended up with around 6k in casino spending cash. He made me an offer I couldn't refuse to spend to buy his points off of him and here is the result. My wife's second piece.

It's 34mm which is a good size for her and a decent companion. I like the way it looks. For the record, the AD experience there was subpar. My friend has purchased at least 50 watches from them and they have never offered any discount or accouterments. Granted, he buys his watches primarily with casino dollars but it's no real sweat to them to be a little more gracious. My opinion. What made this experience less than stellar for me was that the woman told me that this particular watch was new. I inquired if they had one in the case that came in the coffin etc. She said no, this watch had arrived but a few weeks ago. It didn't. It's a G serial which is not suspicious but I later learned that there was no protective plastic over the crystal. Some plastic on the clasp and that was it. It was a rushed experience too in an empty store. Not unfriendly but disinterested and a clear sense that she wanted this over. It was not a prolonged affair on my end either. I contemplated for all of two minutes whether or not I should get a datejust. Without even viewing a datejust, I determined that the slightly smaller, no date would be a better accompanient for her Hulk.

At the end of the day, I'm not the serial number police as my wife will not be flipping this and it end up costing me a true bargain $2500. Still, always give your watches the twice over before taking them. Had this been a purchase for me and a more costly one, I would have been highly annoyed by this, perhaps unintended misrepresentation.

OH- and thanks for the comments already. You all work fast. This watch works really well on a woman imho. It's clean, still has some size and heft. Was also available on a jubilee bracelet but I didn't consider that until after I left.

Nice watch. He must be quite the gambler to rack up that many points. I'm happy if I get a free buffet after playing for a weekend.

Nice gift for the wife. I'm sure that she appreciated you thinking of her.

What I want to know is how much your friend gambles? LOL.

It's stupefying how much this guy can gamble. He's actually up over time but to witness the swings is harrowing to me. That said, I also can enjoy a couple of days of hyper-stimulating my brain in a rather unhealthy way. It's junk mood for the mind and I always get to see some great watches. Thanks again for all the good tidings.

Thanks again all. I have to say for a simple, perhaps less descript piece than most Rolex, it looks quite nice on the wrist of a woman. That little bit of size over traditional woman's watches gives it a little presence but it doesn't have that intentionally big look that the sub does on her wrist. More importantly, I hope to wend my way into another piece at some point. One day I'll figure out which PM piece to go with so I can trade mine in and be left with some semblance of a grail.
