RM advice needed

Sadly the advice is not for me but for a friend of mine who lives in Ukraine and who is coming in 10 days in Paris, he knows that I like watches and told me he would like to buy a RM005 and asked what I think about it and if I could get him one, I told him that I had very little knowledge about RM watches and that from what I've read here the 005 doesn't seem to be very popular, I called my grey dealer friend who said he could have one without any problem, with only a small discount, 5-8% but with full tax refund 16.9%, what I would like to know is what would the owners and amateurs of RM recommend in models that more or less have the same looks as the 005, and in more or less the same price zone, I think 10-20K more would not be a problem for him. I would suggest him the very loved, on TRF at least, 011, but I see it's much more expensive and not sure he wants to put so much money in a watch. The 030 also is very cool but again much more expensive.

The only ones I see at the "low" price point with rectangular case are 005, 010 and 016, I can't say that any of those appeal to me very much, I find the dials very basic and not very interesting, again it's not for me but are there any other models not too expensive that are worthy of interest?

Take a look at the RM029, better than the RM005, RM010, and RM016 IMO, (some of which may also be discontinued). You should be getting hefty discounts on all of those models btw, 30%+.

My only comment is "low price point" and RM should not used together. If one is really worried ("not sure he wants to put so much money in a watch") about prices, they may want to wait a while before buying an RM. Yes, discounts can be had on models (discounts already mentioned above), but finding a hot model in stock is VERY hard these days. RM is keeping stock low and demand high on popular models...trust me.

If he is stepping into RM I wouldn't want to guide a 'friend' into anything but a RM011 to get going. Why? Because when he wants to get out he can--some of these other models are easier to find now, but you could get hurt on the back end.

I'll leave this, where I started, if price is a concern and one isn't sure what they want, I'd hold off and try and sort through it. When you get into this price point you better really know what you're doing (from a buy perspective and what it will look like on the back end). Buy something you like, not something that is 'cheap' and try to love it.

Last time...RM011 (but good luck finding one and YOU BETTER BE VERY CAREFUL on paperwork on RM--USED RM's are like rolling dice...unlike other manufacturers, RM is VERY picky about paperwork for service--be warned).

Thanks Paul and the others, I'm not sure price is a concern just that he asked me about the 005 and what other models I could advice him, since the 005 is with a few others at the "low price point" of RM I was trying to consider some not too far away in prices from it, but I see that under 70K basically the models are not very interesting, the 010, 016, and round models but I don't think he wants a round one, anyways again it's not for me, and honestly I don't like very much the models I just listed, so I think I will tell him that if he can afford it maybe he should get a 011, personally I also like the 030, but maybe the premium for adjustable rotor and on-off for the winding is maybe a little high, I just like the dial much more than the 005-010 and so on. He has the money power to get more or less what he wants but I don't know how much he would put money in a watch.

When he asked me about this I said I will see and yes I can get him a 005 but IMO for that money it is much better to get a good ROO, he is a big guy and has at least 8 inch wrists so he can pull it off.

Anyways I will tell him about the 011, and that it's probably a much safer bet than getting a "low end" RM, no offense to those who have one of these models, they are still cool watches but I know personally I would not get one of them, for those prices much nicer can be had from AP, I much prefer the 70K+ models, I personally like the 030 but a 011 is clearly a cool piece, anyways will write him a message explaining him all this and we will see what he answers

I just sent him a message saying that of course he gets what he wants but I would advice either 011 or 030, and if he can't put that much money then maybe think about an AP either the RG or ceramic 44mm ROO...

I totally agree with Paul as, well, he has been my guidance with RM. So far I have listen to his advice and been very happy as a result.
I am sort of in the same situation as your friend Arnaud going through the exact same selection of RM's at the bottom of the market. (im not in the same financial position however). I have looked at the 005 and 010 in Ti and RG and through the advice of Paul have not bought one. Who would have thought he was right! I too have a nearly 8 inch wrist and very much need to remember the 5 & 10 are smaller. The case on the 11 is exactly what your friend needs. the 5 and 10 look dress watch size (to me) with no functions. I think one whould "get over" these models on their wrist very quickly.

I went in and tried on an 11 recently while my AP was in for service and even though it was smaller than I expected. (not height wise though, they are very thick!). Lug to lug I could still see plenty of my wrist still showing as you will see in my photo's below. note: strap was too tight but didn't want to change it for the new potential owner and put a mark on it. the watch should sit another 10mm further up my wrist which would make it look event smaller.

My advice also is to save out for an 11 or 30 and get a ROO instead of a 5 or 10. This is exactly what I have done and yes I still get itchy, but definitely feel its the right move.
Buy the way wait until you feel the rubber strap on the RM over ROO. Wow they are tactile. Id love to get the feel of an RM over a day on the wrist.
I keep dreaming of an RM but don't regret getting a 44mm RG over a 5 or 10.

Also on a side note I showed the bottom photo to a number of my non-WIS friends and 100% of them said they loved the ROO RG. I then proceeded to tell them the price of the other.

grnman I'm glad I could assist. That 44RG is a stunner and probably perfect on your wrist. You do have a LARGE wrist so RM will be interesting. However, as you noted 5 would have been a disaster on that wrist.

RM011 is a 50mm x 40mm watch, so not small by any means, but the case shape (and curve to wrist) makes it seem perfect on most wrists for sure.

That's exactly what I did, I sent him a message saying either to get a 011/030 if he can, either wait until he has the funds, or get a ROO to wait, I don't know his wrist size but he really is a big guy and has huge wrists compared to mine, so my guess is that he must be around 8, maybe even more, so I followed Paul's advice, we will see what he decides

Not much to add but as he is a big guy the 5 will look silly and the 10 only slightly less so. If I were him I would get a ROO Legacy.

My God, I just got a message from my grey dealer friend about the 010, he says he can't have but can have a 010, when I read the boutique price for it I thought I was dreaming or in another galaxy anyways I think my friend would be stupid to get a 010 if it's small, probably ok for me but for him no ways

You can see how small the Nadal looks on a light boned tennis star. I would assume the 5 and 10 would carry this look.
Yes the case of the 11 on paper sounds big but the contour shape of the case means its seated best if the lugs are right at the end of your wrist.
