I don't recall seeing one here in Bangkok either, although I do often see smart watches and health monitors from other brands

Isn't that sort of the recipe for tanking - when everyone that wants one has one?

Now we will find out if the Apple watch accomplishes what I believe is the real boardroom motive for it - to sell more iphones.

The apple watch will have no impact on funds for new iPhone research.
Funds is one thing they are not short of with over $178 Billion in cash alone sitting in the bank at the end of 2014. If they wanted to, they could buy a country and have the entire population working on iPhone research

Not really surprised. At this point in time, it doesn't really offer much other than fitness related tracking which I can do with other devices at a fraction of the price.

I was fairly surprised they weren't a bigger hit with people my age, I've only seen a handful of them on campus.

Was in Universal City Monday and actually I saw more Apple watch than Rolex ;)

I was suprised how many people where wearing an Apple one

And I really don't get it . . . why would you try to do everything on a telly tiny screen and on the other hand they are increasing the screen size of the phones ?

I work in the tech industry in San Francisco and I see at least 40-50 every day in the office or walking around the city. When the next version of the watch comes out is when it will get interesting. The Apple Watch 2 will be able to do much more independently of your iPhone.

It's a first generation product, so I'm not surprised. As to whether it has any staying power, I guess that remains to be seen.

I do think that perhaps there might be a desire amoung a few for less connected gadgets. I know for myself, between a smart, phone, iPad and a computer, about the last thing I wish to see in my life is another device feeding me email, text, and social media updates

I've seen two in the wild since release.

One belonged to a cousin that said "I don't know why I bought this thing" after wearing it for a few weeks.

That thing is an apple product but it's also somewhat necessary to be an early adopter tech enthusiast. The problem is that most of those people know that Apple has a history of poor first versions. Next year's apple watch will be significantly better in every way and everyone who bought one this year will be trying to sell theirs.

Apple likes to use the word magical when it comes to their products. Many times they are magical. This thing is not. There are much better watches, much better fitness trackers, and smart watches with much better battery life.

I've seen one and it was on a very dorky-looking kid at Souper Salad. Now, I'm not being mean, he was just in that dorky stage of life we all go through.

Of course, I'm not running with the tech movers and shakers. Many of my cohorts, but not all, are technophobes, so I'm not seeing what the market is like.

The Apple watch seems to me to be pretty much what any other smart watches are with perhaps a slicker interface.

Maybe Apple didn't hit the ground running as they did with the phone and tablets.

I can't dismiss the future of such technology, but it does have a whole bunch of things going against it in terms of long range desirability.

In the audio world many years ago, there was a saying that even if they could make an amplifier the size of your pinky fingernail, they would still need a box big enough for the knobs, jacks and what not.

If people are going bonkers of lots of screen real estate, the smart watches seem to fly in face of that reality.

Seen quite a few in Hong Kong, as would be expected, but while they look ok in the display cases, they don't look good on the wrist at all, IMO.

The only way Apple Watch will succeed is if they can guarantee either some kind of buy-back program for future models. Especially when it comes to Apple Watch Edition. Honestly I will always choose the Swiss chronometer over the smart watch, but EVEN IF I wanted an Apple Watch, it just wouldn't be worth the $1,100 investment (42mm space black SS link bracelet) for a maximum use of 2-3 years. To me the only luxury watch brand that has a smart watch feature that I would actually want is Montblanc's e-Strap.

I've seen a couple now. A coworker of mine has one. But he seems to have gravitated back to his Tag Carrera again. He said it was kind of cool, but he prefers the way the Tag feels. I thought that was interesting.

I bought an Apple Watch Sport (space grey aluminum) just to try out. I have to say...it's a pretty interesting piece of tech. I didn't think it would be useful to have the notifications come through to your wrist, but it is. Especially when I can be in the back yard doing yard work and leave my phone on the porch and still answer/reply to calls and texts...I hate having things in my pocket when working. That being said, it is a first generation product and there are several areas of improvement needed. One is the battery life. It's horrible for me. I've pared down notifications sent to the watch greatly, and I still can't get a day out of it. My day starts about 6am and doesn't usually end until about 11pm, with gym time being from about 8pm till 10. I have to charge it before the gym to get it to make it though. That alone would keep it from ever being a primary watch for me, if I could ever lose the love of mechanicals.

That being said, after about the first week of ownership, I'm back to wearing mechanicals pretty much full time. Only exception is when I'm doing physical activity or going to the gym.

I think it looks like a smart idea on paper, but not very practical. Why would I want to use a tiny screen on my watch when I can use a much larger screen on my phone, which is far more powerful and useful? Even the ads from Apple don't really sound that interesting or promote a "much have" feature.
