First Pictures of my latest Arrival...

She is vintage 1991 and never worn or used. Came with all papers and books! Poor thing just sat in a box for 17 years.

Welcome to TRF!

Congrats! Finding a NOS (Now Old Stock) Rolex of that era is not easy!

It's a nice and classic Rolex! I have owned a DJ 16220 exactly like this one, same dial and all.

I too have owned this exact model before and always regretted selling it.

The Story, Well I purchased her from a guy in Ct. on e-bay. The watch being an "X" serial was purchased in 1996 according to the original papers from the Rolex Dealer. So It must have sat at the store for a good long while as well before being sold. I'm told the Gentleman that purchased the watch is a multi Rolex owner/collector and bought it for a good price because the store was trying to get "rid" of it. After purchase he stuck it in a cabinet and mostly forgot about it. He was asking $3000 on a "buy it now" with a low starting bid of $2600 but with a reserve. I watched the thing for days and no one bid on it. Finally I put in the ONLY bid for $2600 but the reserve was not met and the auction closed with still no buyer. He then e mailed me for a last chance offer for the $2600 below the original reserve. I then counter offered at $2300 and he accepted. It was a sweet deal for a brand new DateJust I think. She will make a great daily wear watch for me because for a Rolex she is kinda light and not so cumbersome to wear on a daily basis. Here is another picture still with her protective plastic tape applied to the band.

Let me echo Jordan's post - what is the story behind such a beautiful watch sitting in a box for 17 years? Can't wait to hear!

It's a shame that such a beautiful watch has never seen the light of day. Wind it, slap it on your wrist, and introduce that thing to the world!

Congrats and welcome to TRF. Excellent price on a virtually new watch. So now the 64-dollar question would be: If it's been sitting around for 17 years, does it still need a service? I suppose so.

JJ

Excellent pickup, Ross.

Even has an engine-turned bezel! As JJ has alluded, it might be a good idea to have it serviced, after all of these years in the box.

Other than that - enjoy a fabulous, classic Datejust!!

Yea I was thinking about that also. Where would I send it right to Rolex? Or take it to a Dealer?
