+ Bringing Sexy Back... +

... like a Japanese pop star turned actor.

Hey guys,

So I finally got an Explorer. It's a 36mm 14270. I've always admired the history and minimalist beauty - wanted one since the mid-90s. I had a chance in '98 in Aruba during my honeymoon, but for some reason didn't pull the trigger. After that, for the next few years it seemed they mysteriously disappeared from the market place. Almost as hard to get as an SS Daytona. Secondary market had them at almost double the price. No idea why ('til recently). I ended up getting a 14060 Sub in '99, which I love. Then of course there was that famous TZ review. I was there when sh!t hit the fan, but I didn't care - I still loved the Explorer (and my cal. 3000 Sub). Long story short, I finally got one and loving it!

Thanks for looking.

Congrats on a great watch!
Yeah, I remember that TZ review. Rolex movements are not that finely finished, shocking to some. Met the author a while back--interesting guy.

Does anyone kindly have a link to this aforementioned TZ review? Thanks!

I'm too sexy for my watch, too sexy, too sexy.

Seriously that is pure class rather than sexy.

Thanks guys! It was quite interesting to see the change in public tastes in just a few short years, from being one of the hottest watches on the planet, to something "too small" and almost forgotten. Glad to see the 36mm Explorer is still loved here.

Hey Mick, classy and sexy don't have to be mutually exclusive. That song though, I dunno... lol

Nice, good upgrades in that one! Although I don't mind the rattly end links on mine. Part of the charm I guess.

as for the Odet review, that could have been any rolex model. a rolex isn't drastically different inside from one model to another, they're basically LEGOs. cases might be different but the bracelets, dials plates, case backs, and movements are mostly standardized. he was just giving an opinion and happened to set his sights on an icon.

long live the 14270
Thanks Joe. I totally agree. I already my cal. 3000 Sub when I read the review, and in terms of mechanical accuracy it killed my other watches. So I really took that review with a large grain of salt, and it didn't phase me at all. I was surprised how big of a deal it became. I still wanted the Explorer anyway after reading it but it was like impossible to get.
