Backed away - WG Daytona Meteorite

I have posted before about my indecision about what to do with my WG Daytona with meteorite on black strap. On Saturday I was presented with a great opportunity on the same watch but on bracelet. I've long desired a WG Daytona on bracelet and always assumed I'd trade this strap piece for it, and it seemed to make sense to retain the meteorite dial. However upon further reflection, I decided to back away for the following reasons:

1. Poor trade value on the strap piece and no financial reason to sell.
2. I think the meteorite looks better on strap than on bracelet. It seems maybe too monochromatic on bracelet, kind of like a YM.
3. This bracelet model was preowned and there seemed to be too much of a back story for a 1 year old watch. Random serial and updated clasp.
4. I already have a SS Daytona with black dial, so already have a similar look.
5. Already have a WG DD when I want the WG, so no incremental pick up there either.

What do you think? Still a beautiful watch and would have done it in a heartbeat if it were my one and only, but all things considered, keeping this provides some variety.

From your list of reasons "not to" I think you made the right choice by backing away from the bracelet. I too like the meteorite dial WG Daytona and was contemplating the bracelet. However, IMO the version that makes the dial pop is when it is paired with the strap. Don't get me wrong, the bracelet version is nice too but the strap makes the difference. Agreed that the bracelet is too monochromatic with that specific dial.

I think you did the right thing. Just think of the money you saved.

I prefer it on bracelet.

But also love a leather strap. Way more comfortable.

Probably made the right call. But no wrong answer.

I would have gone for the bracelet only because you can always put a leather strap on the bracelet model to change it up if you want but you can't put a bracelet on a leather strap model

Can't argue with any of your reasons, although not sure what too much of a back story means.

I think bottom line you are not going to get the bang for your buck trading for the same watch on a bracelet. Now if you sat around and thought "this would be perfect if only it was on a bracelet" that would be another thing...but it sounds like it's not. Good call.

I prefer wg daytona on bracelet but not with meteorite dial. I think you made the right call keeping yours on strap.

If this was MY decision I would move the SS Daytona and the one on the strap, give or take X amount of money and get the newest best condition meteorite on a bracelet and have what you really want!
Once you have that you would never wear the SS and the bracelet gives the watch the look, feel and weight it needs

My two cents....

Well, to be fair it's about 3,300,000.00 cents to acquire that Beauty...

Sadly, Tom only counts in hundreds...lol

I like your idea concerning keeping some diversity in your line up. Keep the strap and wear your Day Date when you want some heft.

This is where I come out on it too.

But that's based on you already owning the strapped version.

If I were doing a deal from scratch on a meteorite dialed Daytona, I'd get the one Tom modeled. But it is a heavy one to wear.

Tom is sporting a winner in that pic for sure.

Some of you may know the somewhat serpentine story of how I came to have this WG Daytona with meteorite on strap. About 10 years ago I had a YG DD that I didn't wear and a Tiger Tudor on black shark strap with the stainless bezel and silver dial, which I liked a lot. I thought it would be good to trade them both for a WG Daytona on strap. The first one I got had the white Arabic dial. Then I decided it would be cooler to get the meteorite dial, so I traded that one for the current version. So basically I'm pretty deep into this watch.

It was only about 3 years ago that I saw one of my friends wearing a SS Daytona which I thought looked awesome, so I got caught up in the allure and bought one of those too. Now I have these two Daytonas along with my WG DD, BLNR, SS Datejust with Thunderbird and older TT DJ with acrylic crystal, in addition to my wife's pieces.

So anyway, long and not ideal, but it is what it is.

Backed away - WG Daytona Meteorite

Good call, but as others have said there is no wrong choice here. A benefit of the 116519 is the different strap options. The meteorite dial also looks great on a tan strap, and it completely changes the look. I personally prefer strap for aesthetic reasons.
