nothing fits my small wrist + AD experience

Hi there,

My first proper post on here!

So i was on my lunch break at work yesterday and I decided to first Watches of Switerzland brand on Oxford Street (London) to try on some watches. I was impressed with the whole experience. The assistant was very knowledgeable and had a soft sell technique which i think is best with luxury stores.

However, I was so so desperate to try on the Gmt2c and Subc only to find that both these watches were just too large for my small wrists!!

Please suggest some sort of alternative which would be ideal for very small wrists. I am currently wearing an Omega AT 38.5mm which fits perfect. I think anything bigger than this is going to look out of place. Only option for me is possibly an Explorer 39mm or one of the datejust 1 range right?

Another route would be to get a larger watch and have it with a leather strap which usually gives a more snug look!

How about the Exp 1 36mm or an Airking?

You could always check out the older Explorer (1270 or 114270 @ 36mm), or look for the smaller sized (now discontinued) Tudor Submariners.

Unfortunately neither route gets you the AD experience and warranty.

I am amazed that the GMT (at 40mm) looks too big if your Omega (at 38.5mm) is just right. IMHO the GMT "wears" smaller than its size. I too have very small wrists but my GMT fits fine. I would suggest a 36mm DJ, but they appear to me to "wear" a tad larger than their size.

You might want to go back and ask them if they wouldn't mind sizing the braclet for you. This might make all the difference

40mm watches are supposed to wear "large" it's just that we've gotten bigger that now 40mm seems standard. If your wrists are that small, then perhaps the Explorer as you suggested or a Datejust would be a better fit. Truth be told, both watches have all you need in a Rolex anyway.

I am considering going back to try the GMT2c on again shortly. I think the problem is the large long lugs which add height to the case. My omega AT's case isnt as big and I am pretty sure has shorter lugs too. :(

I can strongly recommend popping into an AD just for the experience. On the same day I went to the Omega boutique store (Oxford street) and that was even better, they offered me a drink on welcome and asked me to take a seat whilst my watch was getting resized and got to try on a few models via a sales guy.

Ofc I will not purchase from an AD again, didn't get enough discount as I wanted! I will be going Airport duty free shopping for Rolex's or grey resellers for any other brand in future.

It is amazing how the design of the bezel, case and composition, and the color of the dial will trick the eye into believing one watch is larger than the other when they are both the same size. I have an example in my own collection with a DJ and a DD, both being 36MM. When side by side, the DD appears larger. I have small wrists myself and the subs in my collection look large on me. IMO, 36MM models work the best for me.

I suggest experimenting with different colors and case designs at your local AD to see what works for you. I am sure you will find your "watch soul mate"!

Take a look at Rolex's 36-39mm line up. I have 6.25" wrists and this is the new red grape OP on my wrist. Fits like a glove. It's the same dimension as the Explorer 1 (39) so you could also consider that.
I also used to own a 14060 and it fit beautifully.

Did you take some pics? I reckon the sub and gmt2c looks just fine. People worry to much about if the watch is to big or not. If you like it and are comfortable with the size i think that says it all. And every collection needs a Rolex sub or gmt in it.

How about a Daytona...they list as 40mm but are closer (at least in appearance) to 39mm--the ss black dialed Daytona is a beauty imo

Daytona in SS is 38.5mm. In PM its 39.1. So yea try out a daytona. Oyster perpetual 39mm is also beautiful.

The 39mm explorer wears pretty big due to the big dial and thin bezel.

I'd rec looking at second hand dealers for a classic 40mm sub or the 36mm explorer I 114720

my wrist is pretty small at 6.5" but I think the 40mm case still works well.

Just measured - 6 inches ish.

well a little over 6 but with a tight tape fit id say 6 inches yeah. :(

That should be no problem to carry whatever watch you want. Any modern rolex with the EZ link or glide lock clasp can be easily sized to fit you. And look and feel great.

If your biceps would be smaller I personally would find the watch a bit too big, but now somehow the balance is there.......just my opinion.

You're either going to need a 36mm size, or a 40mm with a low bezel, like a Daytona or old stock Explorer II. If the Oyster bracelet won't size correctly, you will need to go to a strap, or 36mm Day-Date on President bracelet.

Daytona is a good idea, wears smaller than the Subc. Look on chrono24 for dealers so you can try them on.

I have a similar size wrist, wear a Daytona without a problem. I have had numerous Subs which fit fine as well. The only Rolex I felt that was a little too big for my wrist was a 216570.

I think once you decide on a watch and wear it for a while you will get used to the size.

Older GMT and subs wear smaller with their lugs, do you need new. Certainly lots of room with Oyster perpetuals and Explorers if you don't need a big bezel on the watch, Daytona also wears a bit smaller and flatter, which is often a big part of the visual perception.

37mm Royal Oak AP and even a 40mm Aquanaut will all sit well I expect.

Another vote for the Daytona or the 39mm Oyster. Seems to be around the sweet spot for your wrist.

Try the Sea-Dweller 4000. And if you go with it, have the diver's extension removed. It's a watch that wears well on many wrist sizes.
