Which Sea-Dweller?
I know this has been done before, but with the price of a pre-owned SDc coming down closer to a complete set 16600, which would you choose?
I am looking at a full set D serial or a full set SDc from this past May. The price difference is only $1750 and they are both in fantastic condition. A little backdrop as well, I've owned 3 16600's before and loved each, just sold because I can't hold onto a watch to save my life. It is also my wife's favorite watch, so there is that. I have also had a 114060 and loved the upgraded bracelet and ceramic bezel insert, but I couldn't get past not having the date on my wrist. All this to say I love both watches, but am afraid that the 116600 is to flashy with the ceramic, but I love the new upgraded bracelet. For $1750 difference which would you choose, and why? I know it's all my preference, but I've tried to make up my mind for months and can't! |

I prefer the nonceramic models for subs however the proportions are excellent on the SdC. I think you can't make a bad decision- but real talk, try on the SdC a few times and decide if you like it better than the older model. I'd be absolutely thrilled with either. Let us know what you decide :)

I think you will love the new model. I think you will be$1000 into a service sooner for the older model. They do look great though!

I would go with the 16600, pre-ceramic first, no longer in production and $1,750 less.
You can always flip it later for the 116600, it will be easier to find a great condition 116600 than 16600 in a few years. * I love both 16600 and 116600.* |

SDc for me. I just like the modern improvements (bracelet) more than the older model.

It just depends on what you want. Latest model has a better clasp (but the older on is fine) but looks overtly flashy for a tool watch. Early model exudes class class and functionality and altogether more of a tool watch. Regards Mick |

I am a fairly serious SD fan and have had 16600s for a number of years. My main wearer is a U serial that has really stood the test! I picked up an SD4000very soon after its release though, and whilst it is undoubtedly a superb watch (as is the 16600), there was just something about it that did not work for me. The main issue was that it appeared to 'shine' a bit more than the 16600, and maybe that was down a combination of the ceramic bezel and my perception that it felt a bit bigger than the SD16600. In reality there was probably very little difference in size. In any event if you shop around, there are plenty of both around as preowned. Probably just comes down to personal taste in the end - good luck!

I found myself in this same predicament not long ago, and went with the new SeaDweller. If you liked the new ceramic bezel and clasp but needed the date then the new one is right up your alley. Maybe the Submariner with a Cyclops could be another alternative. But it sounds like the SeaDwellers are more your thing and you can't go wrong with either older full set or newer SD!

I've been going through the same dilemma.
After being sure for quite awhile that I was going to get a BLNR next, a number of things have pointed me to a Seadweller. I don't really have much to add other than I am leaning toward a 16600 with lug holes.

SDc is an amazing watch! Owned both, loved both but ultimately wear the SDc far more than the previous model.
