Another Salt Water Question
My SS Subdate will be seeing salt water here pretty soon...
My question is how long the watch could stay expose to salt sand, and sun? We usually spend 10 hrs at the beach before showering, does the watch need to be wash with fresh water immediately after exposed to salt water? TIA |

Your skin will fall off before any damage is done to your Sub. Seriously its a dive watch and salt water will not damage it. Just rinse it off once your done with fresh water and your good to go.

The short term issue is that salt is abrasive.
When the sea water evaporates it leaves the mineral residue in all the moving parts. Eventually the pins and pivots will show wear from the abrasion....so, rinse this off when you think about it and your watch will last a long, long time..

The Bismarck has been on the ocean bottom for a long time (nearly 70 years) and is still in great shape and was not constructed of 904L stainless steel. I am sure your Rolex will be fine
from http://www.kbismarck.com/: "Considering the fact that on most parts of the decks the wooden teak planking is still conserved, and even the paint, it is most likely that the wreck will resist the effects of the corrosion for at least a few hundred years if not more" Sean

I just got back from a dive trip. I don't think my SD even knows it got wet.

I just got back from Mexico and wore my GMTII the whole time. Plenty of sun, salt water and sand. A quick rinse at the end of each day and no worries.

I made a point of wearing Bluesy every time I was in the water a couple weeks ago in Mexico. I wore it in the shower after each day at the beach to clean it off.

Leave it at home no worries. Joking.
If you can take it the watch can. Enjoy the vacation.

Ohh boy...I thought of a ton of funny answers....but then I thought again.....it's a serious question..deserves a serious answer..
for 2-3 weeks a year...I live on a sailboat in the Caribbean...eat breath and drink salt water....with my Sub... Even if and when I wash off myself...I'm still in contact with salt water for 21 days straight. Don't worry..the Rolex can handle anything you throw at it!! Washing it off is just a precaution...not necessary!! It was designed to live in and by the water...more so than in a boardroom. Kinda like asking..."I bought this new Lambo....do you think I can drive it faster than 50 mph?" It was designed for performance....much like the Rolex....let it perform!!

I actually had a problem with my SD bezel stiffening up and not clicking after I had been diving and forgot to rinse it, so I would advise rinsing with fresh water as soon as possible.

Mine is going on 17 years without any problems in the ocean. Just wash it off when you are done.

And also Margaritas won`t hurt it either. My family spend last week at Myrtle beach, lot of sand, salt water and spilled Margaritas. ;-)
